Best carpet cleaner

Pulled out the BISSELL I bought years ago at QVC, and it will not suck up water. We tore it apart and cleaned everything, put if back to gether, still not working.

I am not spending anymore time on it, does anyone want to recommend a carpet cleaner?

We liked the Bissell, and we have a dog so there is dog hair in the house but I am really good about sweeping several times a week. thanks.

We rent a Bissell professional unit from a local grocery store. It works very well!

I bought a Bissell carpet scrubber from QVC years ago too. I loved that thing. When it konked out I bought another Bissell. It's fine but not as easy to use as the old one.

When I was researching carpet cleaners and cleaning carpets, I ran across this guy on youtube who has a professional cleaning business. His video on how to clean carpets was an "ah ha!" moment for me and I'm going to adopt his method. He does make a recommendation for a cleaner--a Bissell--but you should check out his video for some new ideas if you're interested. One of his tips: You use the carpet cleaner only for rinsing and drying!

His youtube channel is "Clean That Up" and I think the video is 5 Tips to Clean Your Carpet like a Pro (or something like that). In other videos he makes some recommendations on cleaning solutions that are readily available and why you sometimes end up with the carpet seeming to be sticky or to get dirty more quickly after cleaning.

His method seems like it would make cleaning carpets less of a major pain and you don't need a $$$$ cleaner to do it.

I have a Bissel Big Green professional carpet cleaner. They are expensive, but they work. They clean and suck the water up so that the carpet is almost dry.

I raised three kids with off white carpet all through my house.

You can rent this model at the Home Depot if you want to try before you buy, or just don't want to spend the money to own one.

I have my sprayer all ready to go & just working myself up to the fun of moving furniture around........

I have the perfect rec for a carpet cleaner------a pro to do it for me!! No way in blue blazes do I think doing that job on your own is better calling a pro to come do it!! Am over all that.

@wagirl I am following your suggestion! I just called to have all our area rugs cleaned as well as the kitchen tile and grout! And it is less than buying a new scrubber and doing it ourselves.

I had Bissell floor cleaners - both bare floor and carpet - we are cleaning things out and took them to the donation center yesterday, there were 5 of them. I'm not replacing them thank to you!

@We rescue cats --you made me smile! I had a rug cleaner co called PurePro do my expensive wall to wall carpets and what a fantastic job they did. Did the downstairs carpets, up the stairs and the hallway for around $500. Now that is alot but they were magnificent and stayed that way for a very long time. And no chemicals used so nothing to attract the dirt. And they dried in a couple hours. $$ well spent.

@wagirl Everyone is different...I have a dog and on occasion have to clean up a mess and also even with a runner down we walk from the garage to inside the house a lot...lots of dirt brought in even tho I sweep several times a week.

I have not decided what to do yet...I don't like storing an applicance that I don't use often but like to have one when I need it, on the other hand...letting a pro do it is also on my list...lots of reasons pro and con.

I am going to take at that UTube video mentioned and see what it has to say.

@Mom2Dogs --I understand--especially about pets---my cat used to NOT have accidents at my house with the new pricey carpets so that was not an issue for me. I generally cleaned those carpets 1x a year. But now--in her 15th year--she does use her litter box but hairballs and other ---"lovely" messes are a problem. Am in an apt now so I do have to clean up using sprays and rags --need to have this carpet cleaned however. And no way is there any room to store a little used carpet cleaner.

@wagirl I purchased a product called Furry Freshness that has taken animal spots out of my carpet and a few that were old....fast forward to now..our dog has a UTI and piddled in the house several times, sigh.

Once the urine was cleaned up I used the spray and there was no odor and on my light color carpet upstairs there was no stain.

I have always had a carpet cleaner, and really don't want to purchase another one....so I am guessing people that don't have a cleaner...clean the stain asap and hope for the best and don't worry? Serious question, lol.

If anyone is interested in a small "handheld" carpet cleaner for in between the pro cleans, I can give 5 stars to the Bissell Little Green Portable multipurpose carpet/upholstery cleaner (the one with the rounded shape). It has been a lifesaver for cats with hair balls and carpets!

It uses solution, water and suction just like a big machine and does a great deep clean. I store it under the sink in a bathroom, and wouldn't be without it. I had my first one for at least 15 years until I broke it last year. I bought a new one and the quality is still there, thankfully.

ETA: I have the corded one--$99 at amazon.

@Mom2Dogs we cleaned with cleaners (been too long now to remember what we used), but we were blessed with not having too many accidents of any type as my pups got older. Once or twice a year, we would rent a Bissell professional unit from a local grocery store. We found the Bissell brand to do a much better job than Rug Doctor. All that being said, I've read many good reviews on the small portable cleaner by Bissell called Little Green Machine, and I think they make one specifically for pet stains, although I don't know what the difference would be. That might be a happy medium for you. A small machine and then clean with a rented machine every so often.
