With Dennis Basso's Home line being featured again recently, thought it would be fun to review his Long Island living room.

Just like his home line at Q does, he favors a very traditional, "Eastern seaboard, vaguely coastal" look, and clearly loves blue and white everything.

I'm sure I've seen that blue chintz or linen with a pottery print on it before-- very sprightly and old school.

I believe these first few pictures are from about 10 years ago, but it is a timeless look.

I love a centered, entrance hall table, if there's room, but they are usually round. Really like the strong, masculine lines of this rectangular one.

OK, before anyone accuses him of being too "cluttered" below, this was a publicity shot just to show a lot of his merchandise stacked up in his living room!

It was much more recent than the photos above, but you can see that his living room in this is much the same as 10 years ago, including the lamps, the pillows, the roll arm couches, even the combo of pure white vases with his twin chinoiserie lamps... his rug is different, though.

There's a nice consistency when a designer is selling the type of things that he personally loves the most, and thinks enough of to have in his own home. Of course, he's making a version of them that is much more affordable.

I was gawping at the first image, with that painting over the fireplace. Apparently it is an Alexander Calder water color, wow. I really like it as a colorful focal point.

On a less exalted but still fun note, also really like the doubled glass hurricanes on the mantel, and also on the coffee table.

His room is arranged a lot like my public area. I don't have an entry hall table because my entrance is not large enough but I have always loved them; however, I prefer a round table.

I am a fool for blue and white, but only as accent pieces. I had researched how colors you use in your decor translate to your personality:

Here is Blue:

Blue personality temperaments can be good listeners, talk about the possibilities and like to do new things. Conflict or disharmony can upset a Blue. They show concern for feelings in others and have tactful ways of communicating.

When working with Blues, it is important to reassure them of their self-worth and recognize their accomplishments. It is also important to be empathetic with them as well as believe and trust them. Give Blues opportunities to demonstrate creativity, work with and mentor others and communicate.

As much as I like the piece of artwork, it is too small for the area where he has it, but I don't want him to know I said that. I am pretty sure it is an original. He could have used a larger frame to accommodate that area. But that's JMHO.

I see why he used the hall table, rectangular or square. It looks square but measurements not known so it could be rectangle shape by an inch or so IF he used a round table in the entry way, it would fight with the round cocktail table in the public area.

I like the blue and white.....take away 75% of the Ginger Jars and replace the art and I'm liking it a lot more.

I can't appreciate the beauty of any individual item due to the overload on each surface. My eye is all over the place.

I really dislike the art.

Beautiful, classy and elegant.

I especially love the chairs in the second picture.

Vintage Dennis.

It's all tastefully done and appealing, but the foyer and second vignette are my favorites. The chairs in the second photo are lovely. The living room is a bit too stylized for me and I tend to use blue only as accents: pottery, lamps, pillows and such. I don't care for the art over the fireplace and am bit weary of designers placing contemporary art in an otherwise traditional room, as though it's now become mandatory to do so.

It is beautiful. The eye flows seamlessly. The painting is the perfect focal point.

It's pretty to look at but its not my taste although there are a few pieces of furniture or decor pieces that I like.
