This time of year, do you like to look at fireplaces? I don't have one, so found a few that appealed to me--

A stove works too--

Although it helps, it doesn't have to be lit, for me. Here, the striking combo of green, blue and warm terra cotta, brings the liveliness.

Do you like candles, flameless or otherwise, in a non-working fireplace?

This might be slightly *too* close for comfort (or safety), but looks pretty relaxing...

@Oznell I sure do love fireplaces! I miss my floor to ceiling stone fireplace I had in my old home. Now we live in a townhouse and we do have a gas fireplace, while it's nice to have it's just not the same. As far as candles in the fireplace, that's a no for me. I don't think it's a great look, just not for me I guess.

I would be comfortable in the first two settings. The cardinal lampshade is fun.

I miss having a fireplace to decorate.

We both love fireplaces, every place we have lived had one, even the motorhome (Electric). I too love the library but am not a big fan of the candles in the fireplace, Funniest thing is that though we have always had a fireplace we have NEVER had an actual mantle like I wanted. Our current house has a huge fieldstone corner fireplace, it's the bane of my decorating!!

I absolutely love fireplaces. Mine is on from morning to night. I like the first fireplace the most.

We have three beautiful ones, but really don't use them much. They are just part of a house now, and are expected. At least these are gas ones.

No expensive wood to buy and haul around, no ashes, etc.

I like the first photo. It’s warm and cozy. I can hear the rustling fire and feel the warmth.

I can even smell the cinnamon rolls they just baked. Sweet brown sugar and spicy cinnamon.

I don’t have a fireplace, so I let my imagination soar.

Oh, that's my happy place!

We are lucky to have a double sided floor to ceiling stone fireplace that we see from both our living and dining rooms and it gets a lot of use! So cozy....

I too love the green fireplace, very pretty shade and pop of color that goes nicely with the blue(as you say)....

So pretty!

I like all of those pictured. They all look nicer than what we have. Ours was put in by the previous owner. The mantle is painted a deep evergreen color, and the fireplace is ceramic tile in a marbled beige. I don't love the look, but it is fun to decorate at Christmas.

I seldom used my fireplace in my former home, but I loved the look of it. I bought one of the electric stoves sold on QVC last month because I really missed the ambiance of the flame.

The electric one reminds me of when we used to make stage scenery fireplaces with a light bulb, colored cellophane and a fan. No matter how fake it looks, I am enjoying it.

I love the fireplaces you pictured. As for candles in an unusable hearth, I like the look. I wouldn't put them in a real fireplace, but they are a good way to dress up a closed hearth for fall and winter.

I love the first one @Oznell ; it seems so warm and inviting. I love the cardinal lampshade, the green velvet chair, the wooden table and couch. So pretty.

The way the mantle is decorated is lovely; just the right touches.

@Oznell We have a large fireplace in the living room, but one can't sit near it for too long as it becomes too hot. We only use it Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, not supposed to use it at all, but I won't be denied a Christmas fire. We are near no areas that have any burn history, though if anyone rode by and lit the trees, we would be in big trouble. We are pretty knowledgeable on fire protection in this area.

When I was a little girl my sister and I had a fireplace in our bedroom! Loved it. Have never had one since and yet always wanted one. It seems the places I chose as a residence did not have one and yet that was not conscious decision. I admire each and every fireplace featured.

Thank you for these lovely fireplace pictures. They make me feel warm on this very, very cold night. This house in which I live now, and the former two that we had, all have/had fireplaces. We have made ours gas operational, as the smoke often triggered my asthma. That didn't happen in the former houses so maybe it is just my aging. Picture #1 looks similar to what I have now, except on either side I have floor-to-ceiling bookshelving and #3 looks like the one two houses ago. The former house fireplace was open on both sides, to the family room and to the more formal living room of rustic brick like the brick trim around the footing of the house, the brick walkways, pathways and driveway as well the porch (otherwise wooden exterior).

These just make me feel warmer. It is so cold tonight. DH is not feeling well, had a procedure. I have been up with him most of the evening, just making sure he is okay and check his vent.

I love stories posters have in relation to fireplaces-- clearly, the idea of "the hearth" is embedded very deep in human thoughts and feelings...

I've never lived anywhere with a fireplace but always wanted to have a gas one. I really like the first and last fireplace. They appear the most cozy to me.

I love fireplaces! In our last home we had a Wood Burning Fireplace, now in this home we have a Gas Fireplace. I like both for different reasons....

Wood Burning smells so good and gives off a nice,cozy feel and I love the wood crackling

Gas is easy, quick gives off good heat and no mess...

I do not care for Candles in the fireplace, unless its an unusable fireplace, nor do I care for the stove look, unless its a cabin..... Just my opinion!

I like the 1st and last pic the best!
