A FEW CHRISTMAS SIGHTINGS

Noticed some pretty, traditional scenes. First, a few at Flower Magazine:

This is an arrangement in a gorgeous Michigan flower shop. Love the vintage painting, and the predominance of green, right down to the candles...

Red and white striped amaryllis in gilt vases, and red pomegranates in the garland, in a pretty room in Nashville:

One of my favorite fruit decorations at Christmas, is clove-studded oranges-- they always look festive. How do you feel about assymetrical garlands? I really like the simplicity of this one over the mantel:

Wow, I wouldn't have thought I'd like yellow so much, but it's like a burst of winter light here in this Virginia house. Then, the effect of the yellow-on-yellow china, that's really striking...

Paula Sutton's country house in the U.K. always looks so welcoming. Love the effect of her very chunko tree!

Cozy, historic farmhouse below is in New Jersey:

Natural and simple in this one below-- it suits the stately, "old house" feeling in this beautiful Virginia room.

I think this one below is in New Orleans, and is so nicely layered and intimate. I always like the look of doubled glass hurricanes, like these seasonally red ones on coffee table:

OKA online, the English furniture store, also shows some Christmas rooms-- they tend to take a slightly more low-key approach to holiday decoration. I like both approaches-- ornate OR subtle-- in different moods.

This makes cozying up to the fire an inviting prospect:

Interestingly, they seem to go for trees with little twinkling lights, but not much else...

Like how they just slung a few oversize, bright paper ornaments on the floor....

The simple berry table decorations, take their cue from the bordeaux velvet chairs...

Fresh greens on a wide staircase need little else!

Glad to see the tradition of paper snowflakes going strong! Especially in this setting-- I'm in awe of anyone with the energy to do a nice Christmas brunch like this!

Intriguing use of sky blue, along with regular Christmas colors. I wonder if they pulled it from the striking print on the chair? I like it!

I just love the endless variety in decorating approaches. Here, they went with the most minimal of garlands, and it's lovely, especially amid the drama of their architecture and art...

I like the short chunky tree in the Country home. I like to see various sizes and shapes of Christmas trees and the creativity that folks use to decorate them.

It's a beauty, isn't it, @catmama . I found these pictures at the online site, "The Glam Pad"-- the name of the article there is "A Classic Oklahoma Christmas with Eleven Gables".

I've been looking all over for Christmas green taper candles to no avail. They all seem to be dark forest green or sage or light.

There is beauty and appeal in every photo! Love the art work, especially in the first photo. The flower arrangements are lovely and every thing so festive and warm!!!! It is always enjoyable to see how others decorate at Christmas, love the season!!!!

So many beauties. How can I choose one? I can't. I love #1 in the first set of sightings and I love #8, NOLA and #9. I love natural stuff. I like going to the Farmer's Market here and getting natural greenery. It is wonderful to have a place where we can buy the greenery and make our own or what I have done recently, pay the ladies to make one wreath and one swag/garland.

@Marsha2003 , you're right, the ideal shade of green candle doesn't seem that prevalent! I'm using a forest green one in my brass chamber stick, which is working out OK...

@Nonametoday , agreed, fresh is wonderful. We trimmed our holly bushes out front, replete with red berries, and wanted to use the cut branches to decorate. Well, then I remembered some kind of alarm bells about the berries...

Turns out, the berries ( and maybe leaves?) are toxic for kitties. So now I have a vintage ice bucket, filled with picturesque holly, but it must be confined to the upstairs bathroom, the only place our 3 kitties aren't allowed....

Poinsettias, azaleas and a number of other plants which I have grown and did years before I knew were toxic to kitties were never deterred, chewed on or scratched by my kitties, and I have had kitties since I was born *(until we became disabled to care for them and fear of DH tripping on them or dying and leaving them about 2 years ago)*. It is my belief that God gives the kitties enough sixth "sense" to know which things to eat and not eat.

Now, burning candles are another thing entirely. Many have asthma and are allergic to the smells and some nosy ones will try to play with the flicker, so "artificial" candlelight is wonderful and leave the fragrances to the parfum counters at department stores.

There is so much about each one of the vignettes and each one of these homes that I could absolutely love but I can't do everything and I don't have the money to do it all and not half of what I wish, but I find so much lovely here that it fills my mind with happiness and my eyes with beauty.

Good point, @Nonametoday . That's me too. I find that I'm decorating more and more simply for Christmas. I absolutely love to look at festive decorations of all kinds, but for me, I just want to be quietly suffused with the true spirit of Christmas, and never lose sight of that through the season. It's more than enough, if achievable...

My favorites from the first set of photos are #8 and the dog in #11. The Oklahoma City house photos are more my preferred style of decorating.
