LIGHTLY DECORATED CHRISTMAS KITCHEN

The fresh garlands and little tree are just enough greenery for me, plus the pretty potted paper whites on the counter.

Come to think of it, I don't really even have this much decoration in my kitchen! Do have a vintage ceramic and glass snowman cookie jar, and my Christmas tea towels and potholders.

Oh-- I also always put out for decor, stacked, the two teacups and saucers of my Mother's that are in the Johnson Bros. "Merry Christmas" pattern. Always reminds me of "Friendly Village":

Anyway, love the old-timey feeling of this kitchen. The homeowners mixed Benjamin Moore's "Hancock Green" with B. M.'s "Mint Chocolate Chip" to get the soft paint color.

That collection of large jars you can just glimpse in the adjoining dining area intrigues me, love it. How lucky that they are in a cheerful seasonal green!

For those who don't care for overtly green kitchens, here's one from Ven House, in Somerset, England. Can never get over those fabulous windows. Love the pretty French chairs, island and iron lantern...

Lovely, very soothing. My eye needs a bit more color, though! I do also love the Christmas dishes and the collection of green jars.

Stunning! Love the greenery. Will be using faux cedar on my living room mantle this year, love it so much as it drapes and has different levels.

We have Friendly Village from a long time ago. Last few years purchased "Christmas Eve" Royal Stafford at TJMaxx. We use it year round as I love it so much I see they still have it online!

I like the colors and especially the wood in the 2nd one.The pictures and everything make it look warmer and more inviting.

I would be afraid that lantern would

fall!

The first is almost too bright. Not very cozy, making it look kind of utilitarian. The draped greens are very pretty over the windows. I just think I would need sunglasses to sit there.

The first one is beautiful and I could certainly live happily with it although not my most loved style--a little too farmhouse for me.

The second is fabulous. I'd move right in.

I love this kitchen. I just had my living room/hallway done in a pale green similar to this. It brings out the pictures and things on the walls. My favorite color is green.

I love the Christmas greenery in the first kitchen but the cabinets, etc. would definitely need to be painted or changed out. I actually find the color a little nauseating.

The second kitchen is not my style but the wood floors, wood windows, etc. are beautiful. However, what are the candlesticks on the table made of or rather, what are they supposed to be? They look like antlers to me.

@Oznell , I have a lot of the Friendly Village dishes, mostly they were my mom's and I've added to it. I think there are some of the Christmas ones mixed in. They are rarely used as I've lived alone for almost 30 years.

I would like to take just a touch of lightness from the first kitchen and transport it to brighten up the second kitchen. The second is a bit dark but quite lovely.

My grandmother had Johnson Brothers Friendly Village which is why I got Johnson Brothers years ago.

I love the first kitchen. I'm a fan of anything farmhouse. My Grandmother's kitchen was in a sage green, she had a big farmhouse with a cozy wood stove in the kitchen. I remember the cabinets were a sage green with a pretty wooden floor and she had the green milk glass dishes.

Love both kitchens. The first is a spring and summer kitchen that my grandmother would have loved as hers was very similar. Very country look, very 1920-40s, I expect was my grandmother's. She was living in that beautiful mint green kitchen with bright, white cabinets until my decorator sister decided she wanted to paint Grandmother's walls lime green and the ceiling cherry red. Oh, how nice it was at Christmastime until she blew up the pressure cooker and the ceiling became red-and-white polka dot pattern. Such memories. Granddaddy never liked the lime-and-red kitchen so he painted it back mint green.

I love the second kitchen, I like the fact that someone else loves a fall and winter kitchen which this is. I love the (what appears to be) farm table with os de mouton chairs. This is a kitchen I could love but probably would not want to cook in as it would ruin the beautiful appearance. Just have my food delivered.

I love the Johnson Bros dinnerware. I have Christmas Spode which was a gift. I would have preferred something more traditional but never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Speaking of Johnson Bros, my DIL said she had ordered me a couple (vegetable) bowls from Johnson Bros replacement site for my Blue Danube which turned out to be a flow blue. I like it. I mix it together and one of my DILs bought me some Blue Onion which is very similar except it is porcelain and another friend gave me a soup tureen that is Blue Nordic from Johnson Bros. I have used those plates that are not Blue Danube but blend well on my blue & white plate collection over my fireplace (No, I don't have a TV there). I have a mirror and above that to the ceiling, a collection of blue & white.

@Nonametoday , ha, ha, enjoyed your wry comment "just have the food delivered". Yes!! And in that setting, everything would be ambrosia and nectar....

Love the mixing and matching that you do with your various types of china. Always makes it more interesting. I bet your table settings are a feast for the eye.

@Oznell Lovely. I have a small kitchen, but not really any decorating, except tea towels and potholders, but then also my Christmas mugs. I LOVE the windows in kitchen 2.

Your post gave me a great memory. My grandma always called kool aid, or any drink (juice, kool aid, tang). NECTAR. We only visited once a summer (Wisconsin vs home in PA) so I have special memories of summer vacations on grandmas Wisconsin farm. They didn't have a dining room, but a huge, huge table in her kitchen. Christmas is my favorite time of year. Thanks, as always for the great home posts.
