Tide with Bleach Alternative

I have used this for years. When I ran out a few months ago I couldn't find it. I just figured there was a problem with stock or something. Today I found out it's been discontinued.

I only used it once in a while on heavily stained colored clothes. It never let me down.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative? I have an older top-loading machine, so I don't use HE detergents. (But I love my washer and dryer!).

I have become a fan of Tide Pods. Based on load amt it tells you on the bag how many pods to use. There are several scent choices, I use the Spring Meadow scent but they also have a no scented selection I believe. So easy, just drop a pod or pods in the washer based on your load size then load the clothes and start the washer.

I use Tide Free or regular Tide with Downy. Combining the steps of soap and fabric softener always appealed to me.

Since the HE is concentrated (and easiest to find when shopping) I use the specified amount and then dilute it with water and that works very well.

As for stains, years ago I started using dabs of Dawn on any stains or spots. Works very well and it's gentle enough to use on ducks!

I don't like the pods. Sometimes they stick to each other and leak all over the container.

I wonder if Tide with Oxi White would work the same, maybe an alternative. I've used Oxiclean instead of bleach.

FYI........Research shows that ~75% of intact plastic particles from laundry detergent pods are released into our oceans, rivers and soil(International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2021)

Laundry pods dissolve because they are made from a plastic called polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which is designed to dissolve in water, but it doesn't fully biodegrade, meaning the plastic breaks down into tiny, often invisible microplastics that can easily pass through wastewater treatment plants and end up in our oceans, essentially becoming "plastic in the ocean" even though the pod itself seems to dissolve completely in the wash cycle; this is a major concern regarding environmental pollution from laundry pods.

@beach-mom I use the Clorox 2 for colors, color safe bleach. I use direct on stains, let sit for 5 minutes, as well as add into the wash and it's excellent. Way better than anything else I have used to treat stains.

Thanks everyone!

I rely on Dawn too. I learned about this years ago. DH and I were celebrating something and I had a nice, new dress on. We were waiting to be seated at a restaurant when someone and her wine bumped into me. The hostess told me about it and gave me some to use.

My mom always used a bar of Ivory. I still use that sometimes too.

I think I'll try Tide with Oxi, or Clorox 2. I do use Clorox bleach for whites.

I just am still shocked I didn't know they had discontinued it. It shows how much I use it. But I always was able to get it before now.

I used to use Persil Stain Fighter and tried different brands until I found my new favorite "Tide Ultra OXI White & Bright". Safe on colors, removes stains and my DH's white socks look great. Now I only hope they don't discontinue it!

I did google it and I found a very informative website. Its cleaninginstitute.org and they debunk the pod myth's. Click on understanding products then click on the detergant packet disolvability. Interesting.

They also have other interesting information.

@goldensrbest We love Tide hygenic clean for really dirty clothes, towels (both kitchen and bath--which are both washed separately), and also ones Tide and All brands, with Oxi.
