PLAYFUL ENTRY HALL-- IN A TUDOR?

Yup, it's in a Tudor Revival house, designed by Lauren Robbins. Found this so inviting. If you walked in there for a party, wouldn't you be intrigued?

There's "Twiggy" peeking out from the staircase, and the Brunschwig & Fils curtains, "Chevron Bar Silk Warp" are ravishing and help animate the space. Not to mention that lovely rug repeating the colors....

What a lovely entryway, spacious and filled with light. The curtains are so pretty, love the red color and the rug is perfect. While I do not care for the art work, it does appear to work in the area shown. Very nice! I do like entryways and they are what you see first ,and drawn to.

@spiderw , I'd love to know your opinion, as a traditionalist, on the painting out of wood trim and walls in a house like a Tudor, which usually has tons of natural wood millwork, trim, paneling, etc?

I fall somewhere in the middle-- I do want *some* preservation of old, natural wood in house like that. But the knock on Tudors and some Craftsman houses is that all the paneling, especially, can be very gloomy. In the interest of having more light, to me some painting is fine.

I'm OK with what they did in this entry-- they did leave the top of the bannisters natural, and of course the stair treads. I might have left the solitary beam natural too, and even maybe that low wainscoting....

Where do you fall in the "spectrum" of opinion, ha.

I think it's spacious and bright.

I love white so there's rarely too much of it for me. In this case, the curtains, rug and gleaming wood floor are the perfect accompaniments.

The Twiggy picture is interesting and unexpected.

@Oznell I like the light paint colors, the simple sconce, & the wall art. It's nice that it's not overcrowded with things, or dark, and that the entryway has an open feeling.

The stairs, railings, floors, rug and dresser are all lovely. I don't care for geometric fabrics of most types, so the curtains negate the overall appeal of the space for me.

I think it is great with just the right amount of wood. Our last house had a high ceiling with wood beams in the living room and I never liked them.

I know now I should have gone ahead and had them painted.

It's cheerful & bright! When I think of a Tudor house I think of it being dark inside...at least my sister in law who has a Tudor styled home is very dark and kind of depressing.

@Desert Lily , good point, glad you picked up on those sconces; I also thought the simplicity of them was enhancing, and in keeping with the refreshingly "clean" look, rather than going with something expectedly more ornate....

If she/he were going with all the contemporary artsy like curtains, geometrics, prints, etc., why not leave some of the Tudor flavor in the woodwork or do traidtional and paint the woodwork white. I don't like it. Sorry. I could have loved it. Alas, I don't like it at all.

I guess I'm not getting a playful or intriging vibe to the foyer. I'm so used to designers who create a room(s) with an eclectic style or color palette and, honestly, I don't see a whole lot of that here anyway. The picture of Twiggy doesn't resemble her too much (IMHO) in that I would have just thought it was some sort of painting of an older picture of a relative. Maybe if I were in the room looking at it up close, I might get that it's a picture of Twiggy.

Hi Oznell!!! I am far from an expert on different style houses but I do love Tudors and Victorians. As far as a lot of wood is concerned I would leave it and not paint over it. I know it can darken a room and make a gloomy environment but painting over the wood is not for me. I would have furniture, curtains/drapes and decor which would brighten up the room but not in a loud way or ruin the surroundings. Also I would add artwork with color.

I spoke of my late girlfriend's log cabin where aside from the logs the walls were pecky cypress . In fact in my family cottage I had knotty pine walls. I loved it all and while it wasn't all filled with light, it was so appealing to me.

If I lived in a Tutor house I might desire color in place of the wood after a time but knowing me I would let it be!!!!!!!! You being in the middle is probably a better place to be.

Finally someone that is not afraid to use some color! I like it, its not the same as everyones interior's different shades of tan, beige, white, ecru and on and on.

I love the white, and the staircase. I am not thrilled with the Artwork, but somehow it looks ok here. I like the pop of color in the curtains and rug as well.
