Ruggable Rugs

Do any of you have a Ruggable rug? I'm considering one for my living room. I currently have a beautiful hand loomed, wool rug that our two German Shepard are destroying. The little guy likes to chew and pull up the loops if you aren't watching him.

I purchased a small one to try out near my sliders but I haven't put it down yet. At this point in my life, I just want something that's stain resistant, flat weave, and performance for this crazy household. I can't have nice things.

I have a couple small ones. Wash beautifully. Not so nice underfoot, as a wool rug though. They have some really beautiful patterns. Probably would be great with pets, but don't expect it to be cushy like wool.

Have you considered an indoor/outdoor rug? Definitely no cushioning or loopy fibers, but you can wash them with the hose.

Yes, I've looked a them, but I can't find a design that I like that I think would be appropriate for indoors. I know they market them for indoor use also, but most of them look a little too colorful for my taste. Love them outside though!

I ordered a large ruggagble rug. Pulled it partially out of the box and saw how muted the colors and pattern were, compared to the online pictures, put it back in the box and returned it same day.

Since I never learn, I ordered 2 small holiday rugs to put in front of 2 doors. Again, muted colors and pattern. The Velcro backing thing is a pain to put on smoothly. I ended up giving both to Goodwill. Never again.

@Dar321 Thank you. I bought a small one for the area near the sliders. I'm going to put it down today to see if I like it. I know they make them now that are thicker and cushier than the original. I bought a Jonathan Adler design that I keep going back to. I'd love to have it in a large size for my living room, but I definitely want to make a wise choice. Area rugs are so expensive and I don't want to make the same mistake. Of course, when I bought my current rug, we didn't have the puppers so it wasn't really a problem.

Also, every area rug that I've looked at says to NOT use the beater bar on your vacuum. This makes maintenance an effort and I'm tired of babying things. I actually bought a second vacuum that does not have a beater bar, just suction. I'm looking for something low pile.

@gidgetgh I've read it's really difficult to lay the large rugs on top of the pad. I want at least a 10 x 14 which is too big for my washer. I'd have to take it to the laundromat. I'm not sure all this is worth the effort. They sure do have gorgeous designs though!

I had the same experience with them. Kinda dull colors, not cushy and the Velcro is a PITA. I had a 5x7 or so and at the time a sick kitty who would throw up on it. It was good that I could wash it but the Velcro was a pain. I also gave mine away.

My dad brought back Persian rugs when he worked in the Middle East (for my mother) many decades ago. They were handed down to me. My border collie did the same thing and when they get older, feces and vomit do not come out of an old rug without destroying it. I have Ruggable and don't look back. I enjoyed all the years I had those beautiful rugs from Iran but that time is up, just as my time is winding down. Ruggables are wonderful. Don't hesitate. You will miss the woolen rugs for a time but you will find the Ruggables too easy to care for and beautiful and you will get rave reviews from visitors. Buy them and enjoy them. I have them in my public area, even in front of my stove area, under my DR table and my breakfast room table. Easy peasy.

I only use my vacuum sweeper until my housekeeper comes on Tuesday and she uses the vacuum but I have told her "don't use the beaters." She has done it when I have come and found her doing it and it still looks lovely. So I guess it doesn't matter if you don't do it everyday.

I gave them to a relative who is going to cut them down and make little scatter rugs and pillows from them. Another lady told me I should have made handbags from them. I don't want all that mess in my life at this point. I just gave them away to someone who said they could use them. Mine had some stains that were not redeemable where my dog had seizures and ....well, you know what I mean.

@Nonametoday I do know what you mean! I'm glad you were able to give them to someone who wanted them. I'm like you. I just don't want any of that mess in my life anymore. Easy is what i am looking for!

I like mine. I have a runner in front of my kitchen sink. Just changed out to fall. Then in October I have a Halloween one with skeletons on it. I have a Christmas one with ornaments then after Christmas, I have one with snow flakes. I just got the longest runner for my hallway. I know they're on sale right now.

As others have posted I too have a lot of indoor/outdoor rugs that can be taken out and washed/hosed off. I love them because they look nice and I always like having the option to really clean them at least once a year, just more hygienic and clean.

Also, some posters have noted how dull the ruggables look in person but I would personally find that a plus because I've bought too many rugs online just to find that in person they look too bright and "new"....I prefer the dull, aged, worn-in, patina-ed look of a duller rug. So that may be a plus for you as well....depending on the look you're going for.

I want to go to Home Depot, Lowes and Target to see if they have anything. There's also a huge store called Floor Decor but I don't recall seeing rugs in there but maybe I wasn't looking at the time.

I needed room sized rugs for my office, 2 bedrooms and our formal living room. Since they do not get heavy traffic I bought them all from Wayfair. Pricing is good, quality is good for us, but these are not heavily used rooms. But the cats have a tendancy to pass furballs . . . and the rugs do not have stains, we've had them all for over 5 years.

We recently got LVP flooring and I thought the washable concept would be perfect, but then learned I can't use latex on my LVP; the huge base under the rug has latex so it's a no-go for me. Looking for some nice area rugs now.
