MASSACHUSETTS LIVNG ROOM

Such a cozy New England coastal look, from the Foggy Anchor blog. I'm not on Instagram, so don't that know much about it.

But love the well-worn leather chairs, Oriental rug, soft sage walls, fisherman's floats, the fireplace, rugged wooden box, on and on. It's not "over-stuffed" either.

Here's a question-- is that an iron dog, maybe an antique fireplace accessory? At first, I thought he was an antique stuffed toy, but he's sort of shiny-- so that's why I then thought-- oh, metal. But... can't really tell. What do you say he's made of? He's cute, in a funny little way, although not as cute as a real one, of course.

The intimate, traditional dining room is sweet also. It could almost be in "Jessica Fletcher's" house in fictional Cabot Cove, in "Murder, She Wrote"! Although I do believe she'd have a different chandelier.....

The dog is cast iron. You can tell from his legs and the patina there. I collect cast iron dogs (smaller ones) and their legs look like that over time.

@Oznell I love the first room, especially the rustic wood floors and the cozy chairs. I don't like the Dining Room because I don't like one to begin with, and because they mixed modern lighting with an Old Colonian table and chairs which I really dislike. I think the dog is cast iron, Iv'e seen those in old historical homes before.

While not my usual taste, I do like the living room. The furniture looks comfortable and I always love art work. The dining area is compact and appealing but I prefer something more formal. I would put this type of table and chairs in my kitchen.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Love it. That's an iron dog. It has obviously been painted from its original state, to a shiny state. It is iron. I have seen these before. I think I saw one on Plate & Plaid recently, last 2 years or so. I am at that age, where anything in the last decade is recent. LOL.

I have some Japanese fishing floats on my cocktail table and I am definitely not coastal but I just think they are symbolic of a time when creativity and resourcefulness were used in every trade. Fishermen made their own floats from glass bottles and later companies began manufacturing them and of course, later the Chinese capitalized on that and made them from plastic.

Love it all! Oh, I have a little old bulldog on my kitchen counter, but ceramic. I do appreciate all the decorating here. Very comfortable and homey. I also like the dining room, as I have black Windsor chairs in mine, but would only change the light fixture over the DR table.

Love both rooms, except for the chandelier in the dining area. Not a fan of that. Love the sage color on the walls in the living room.

I really like the mix here. To me (and I am by no means a decorator) this seems a mixture of country, vintage, and traditional which I have in my own home. These rooms are cozy looking and "lived in" which draws me in for sure.

I'm wondering about the dining room table being that close to the fireplace! That one chair is almost "in" the fireplace.

@ALRATIBA The same with the leather chairs in the living room. Heat from being that close to a fire would surely ruin them.

I have a feeling the fireplaces aren't used.

Such wonderful rooms! Not all of it is my style, but I do love how warm and comfy it all looks. The little iron dog is adoreable....many times they were used as door stops or decor by a fireplace.

I love the leather furniture but am not really fond of much else in the living room. I much prefer the dining room area.

As for the dining room chandelier, for once I do agree with those posters who would replace it. Usually, I don't mind a light fixture that departs from the overall style of a room-- but this one doesn't seem to impart much. If there was more of a "mix" of contemporary and antique in the room, it might not be so glaring. But virtually everytihing else in the dining room is very traditional/quaint, so the every-which-way bulbs really stick out!

@Oznell My grandmother had that exact same little cast iron

Boston Bulldog. It is an antique door stop.

There were a lot of different figural cast iron doorstops.

I have an antique one that is a painted basket of flowers.

I love this house, it looks comfortable.

I like it. I think it is edgey and adds a point of conversation. I might not have chosen it but now that I see it, it would have made me sad that I did not imagine it. But I understand how we all have different tastes.

I love the look. And as others, with the exception of the chandelier. Aside from that it is a quiet elegance. Beautiful.
