CHEERFUL KITCHEN

I like what Amanda Louise Interiors did for this kitchen:

Was first drawn in by the mint green. It's very similar to what I have in my kitchen, Benjamin Moore's historic "Van Alen" green.

The little spike of yellow in the lamp, and in art print and the flowers, is charming.

I love the look of that little pantry or whatever, with dark wood, that we get a peek of--

My only qualm was the perhaps too-sharp contrast of the black pendant lights and the counter chairs.

Black used this way, if you're not careful, can come off as trendy, rather than classic But then, I zeroed in on this old black grate in the fireplace wall-- and the other black elements do make more sense and chime in with the grate. Still, I personally might have used a softer, distressed or more charcoal-y black...

Would you have used those black accents, softened them, or used something entirely different?

The overall feeling of this kitchen is so warm and welcoming-- could spend a lot of time there!

I think this is a beautiful kitchen too. I really do like that shade of green. The brick wall fireplace is an especially nice touch. I don't mind the contrasting black. The grace, stove, fixtures and painting all tie it together for me.

I feel the same as you about the black lamps and counter stools.

I would have used something different, a lighter color even white and something more comfortable too!

I had a similar shade in my last place just a little more teal. Very pretty and cheerful.

I think the black provides a necessary contrast to all of the mint color. Otherwise it would be just too sweet and cloying.

Love the big window and paint color. I'd have used a lighter wood tone, or even white for the chairs.

So much beautiful light streaming in! Love the lighting in front of the window and yes, the yellow in the lamp brings out the colors of the art work.

The finishing touches are pretty and just right.

I love the color scheme @Oznell

I might have gone more more toward gray but I still like the black.

The only thing I don't care for is the brick, I would have painted it.

@Oznell I liked it all EXCEPT the black lighting fixtures and chairs. The black grate is super. I don't ever like black in home decor.

@Oznell Having the pendants black makes them seem too large for the space. The sink faucet is gold.......perhaps they could have been painted gold. Also, I would paint the brick white.

I don't care for the picture on the fireplace, but then that is always a personal choice for artwork and what the homeowner enjoys looking at.

Since the kitchen is short on counter space, I would do away with the lamp. The pantry looks like they are using the top portion of an old desk, perhaps a roll top. I never care for the use of curtains in place of doors.

All in all, it looks like a happy place.

Green just isn't my favorite color....this is OK but I would have picked a light gray for the cabinetry. I love the black accents and would have added more with the cabinet pulls, handles and sink fixtures.

I like the kitchen except I simply could not tolerate that color. In small doses it's nice, for that much, no I could never live with that. But the rest of it is very nice!

@DSD2 , and @Regal Bee glad you made the point about the natural light streaming in. It's definitely a part of the appeal-- it just keeps it so lively-- interacting with the paint color. I wouldn't have thought the green would be such a draw in both summer and winter-- but in my kitchen have found that it's cheery in dull, inclement weather, and refreshing in the summer.

@AuntG -- yes, I could definitely go for a light wood tone on the chairs, I think it would balance nicely with other elements...

Like the fireplace surround. Because of the horse picture above it, the arched design brings to mind a horseshoe (even though it's not an exact shape).

The black picture frames, pendant light fixtures, and chairs look harsh in contrast to the rest of the kitchen. Agree that charcoal might look better. Or maybe some other colors, such as the gray similar to the front of the stove, or a brass color, or aged copper that has blues in it. Found some color examples on the QVC website, shown below.

When looking at the following ight pendant magnified on the item page, the brushed finish appears to have a mix of golds, browns, charcoals, and grays (QVC item #H402118):

Love it!! Made my brain so happy looking at the photos----I love the black accents and would leave them --my fave are those tiny tiles above the doorway--looks like some are of birds--I would do that in a heartbeat. The green is dreamy too!!!

At the risk of sounding like an eccentric, I don't really care for cheery colors in home decor. I prefer moody colors. This kitchen has some desirable elements, but I don't care for the color at all.

You did fantastic, @QVCisFun ! I was thinking that a sort of indeterminately "bronze" light fixture could work well, and your first two examples especially, fit that. It's hard, but I think I'd choose the first one. Good job, and as usual, thanks for detective work!

The photos look really pretty. I do think the black pendants give off a "sword of Damocles" vibe in the photo. Visually too heavy. Although it may look great in context of the whole room. That is the part we don't see.

I struggle with the practicality of the large art piece hung on the range hood. It looks pretty for the photo, but going up a step ladder to wipe the greasy build up on such a item would be a big no for me.

I am intrigued by the hutch like piece I glimpsed through the doorway in photo 3. I wonder if that is a butler's pantry.
