Vacuum Cleaner recommendations - lots of dog hair

Our 22 year old Sears cannister vacuum cleaner is close to dying.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Heavy dog hair (Siberian who hates to be brushed) with a combination of carpet and tile floors.

The FB groups for Collies and Huskies recommend Sharks. I think I spend 2 hours online yesterday researching and watching youtube videos!

I have two German Shepards (one a long hair), so there's lots of dog hair if I don't keep up with it. I'm a Dyson fan. I have an "animal" canister that i bought from QVC years ago. It's quite powerful, but corded and heavy. It's a workout. I also have a Dyson stick that's ready to go at any given time. I use it every day. I love it. Gets all the dog hair and is light and nimble. Highly recommend. Look for deals on one. You don't need top of the line. Mine is a lower model that I got in Target a couple of years ago. I think I only paid about $250 for it.

If you have area rugs, watch out for the beater bars that they now have on virtually every vacuum. My Dyson ate a portion of my living room rug and i had to have it repaired. I bought a German vacuum without a beater bar that I only use for the rug. I think it's called Sonic Clean.

I have a cat---so don't have the snowstorm of fur that OP has ---but I have a shark rotator corded vacuum that does a really great job. It was from Bestbuy for under $200 on sale. Got it a few years ago. I didn't have then, the $$ for a Dyson. It is kind of top heavy tho, and using the attachments is a pain but it does pick up alot of stuff very well.

I'm a Dyson fan, and yes I have tried Shark and have 2 of them which are being donated. We have 4 cordless Dysons, one on each living level of our home. With 12 cats it is important that there is one easily within reach and have not found any other vacuum that works as well. They are an expensive investment but they are easy to maintain and have almost no downtime. My complaint is that they are top heavy and can easily fall over if just leaned against a wall and that the attachments are not interchangeable among different models.

Well, to confuse you even more. I have both a Dyson and a Shark.

The Dyson is heavy and I have issues with lugging it up the stairs.

The Shark is lightweight but it doesn't stand up very well, keeps falling over.

However, the Shark does just as good a job as the Dyson and it's easy to clean the canister. My Shark inhaled a sock the other day before I could grab it.

The Shark NV360 Navigator is on sale at the big A for $190. The Dyson Ball Animal is $500.

It seems I go through vacuum cleaners like every 3-5 years, my little mixed terrier does shed alot of hair. My last vacuum purchase was about a month ago, a Shark HV322 Rocket Deluxe Pro Corded Stick Vacuum which is light weight and is great for picking up dog hair, I purchased on Amazon, liking it so far, don't mind vacuuming now😊

@cindyNC This past Sunday the TSV was a Shark vacuum I was going to buy but didn't. There is one color still available--item no. V83553. It has gone up $7 but still has free shipping.

It says something about a pet power brush but read the description thoroughly.

I like my Dyson since it's cordless. I don't like it does not have an on off switch. You have to hold the button down the whole time you vacuum. It now makes my hand wrist hurt when I use it. As I get older that's only going to get worse.

I need something else that's cordless that works as well as my Dyson.

Listen up Dyson you need to make your vacuum cleaners with an on off switch???

I have 2 pugs (heavy shedders) & a Frenchie and I use the Dyson Animal cordless which has definitely made my life easier. I have one for upstairs and one for the main floor.

@Nightowlz I think the newer one does stay on, I've considered getting it strictly because of that, my rheumatoid often has issues with with that same thing, my right hand suffers if I have to hold that trigger for too long.

Thanks for the reply. I need to go to their site to find out.

That's the only issue I have with my Dyson. I need one with the fluffy head or whatever they call it. I use it on hardwoods so they don't get scratched.

i have used both Shark and dyson.

i like the Shark better. Easy to clean dirt collector, easy to use tools.

what i don't like about corded dyson: the extension wand extraction, just a pain to do. the head of the vac is bulky, cannot get under toe kick. the dirt collector is a pain to clean.

i bought mine at BJ's about 4 years ago, still going strong!

When we first got our collie I bought a Dyson Canister. Hated It. It is heavy and cumbersome. I now use the vacuum to clean up leaves outside.

Bought a few other vacuums, they are now in the attic.

I have been using my Hoover Wind Tunnel Max PAWS for over 7 years. It is still going strong and picks up everything. Sadly the collie passed away but it now picks up all the long hair that my son now sheds.

It has been the best vacuum I have ever bought. And I have gone through just about every brand. And in all the time I use it (3 - 4 times a week) never had to replace anything.
