How do you wash your towels?

I am excitedly awaiting delivery of my new Speed Queen TR7, which will hopefully be delivered Friday. I was reading the online manual, because I am THAT excited...lol...and the plethora of cycles and how they function are amazing. It got me to thinking about how I wash my towels and I wondered...

On what cycle do you wash your towels and at what temperature?

My Speed Queen has a special cycle for "Whites, towels and sheets." It's a TR7 like yours, but 2 1/2 years old. Check in your manual, but on my machine it's P5 under Special Cycles. Love my Speed Queen!

ETA I use hot water for towels & sheets. I'm aware of the differing opinions on the need for hot water, but I want to kill dust mites because of my allergies and germs because of caring for a handicapped family member.

@Ainhisg - if you don't mind my asking, where did you purchase your Speed Queen from?? I'm wanting a new washer dryer set and I'm adamant about getting a speed queen brand but no where in my are has them locally. I've done some research and saw a place that sells them but I'm very apprehensive about ordering online.

I wash mine on the "whites" setting, which on my washer is a longer cycle than "normal" and I set the water on warm. I do have a specific towels setting on the dryer.

My settings are simple on my machine: on/off, hot/cold, gentle/ medium/heavy.

Towels are not an item that need much thought on how to wash or dry.

Yes! I saw that in the manual, which is what got me to thinking. My word...I never dreamed I'd find someone else who has this same washer. If I have any questions, I'll know who to tag!

I will ask you this. I was watching a YouTube video on the washer, and in the comments, a woman wrote that her lid locks after the washer shuts off if she doesn't open the lid within a certain amount of time. Could that possibly be true?

@Glitter51 I live in Springfield, Missouri, and it is my understanding that only independently-owned appliance stores carry them. We have a Metro Builders here, which there are others in neighboring states, so they must be independently owned.

I've never had that happen in the 2 1/2 years I've had this washer. It does lock while it's operating, but then unlocks once the washer stops. I wonder how long that lady left the clothes sitting in the washer.

Okay, @LindaSal, this washer does have a whites setting. I have always washed our towels in hot water but I have been wondering with the longer cycle and improved detergents, if washing in warm with a warm rinse would be sufficient or if I should still wash in hot...hmmm...

@shoesnbags , I wondered the same thing. I did read (and see on a video) that to unlock the lid, all a person has to do is press the pause button.

I have an LG front loader...it has a "towels" cycle, but I never use it. I use the "Normal" cycle for almost everything. For towels, I use warm water. They've always come out smelling fresh & clean!

I have a no frills stacked washer/dryer. Everything gets washed in cold on normal cycle. See no need for anything fancy.

i have a speed queen and I hate that feature more than anything

I have a 40+yo Maytag and I wash everything in 'Regular-Cold-Wash'. The only other option is 'Permanent Press'.

I have an Electrolux washer that has a towel setting. Push it and it does what it's supposed to do.

How long do you have to leave it after the wash is done for this to happen? I've never had it happen in 2 1/2 years, but I never, ever leave the house with the washer going. So a finished load of laundry doesn't sit in my washer for hours. Just curious.

I googled this and it seems like the lid not unlocking after a cycle is finished would be a malfunction of the machine - something that needs to be fixed, not a "feature" that supposed to happen.

I guess that's why I've never had it happen lol.

I have a top loader with an agitator, I use the heavy setting with hot water & since there's no hot rinse anymore I wash them a second time in hot water without soap...that's my hot rinse. I use Wisk Free & Clear, no fabric softener. Enjoy your Speed Queen @Ainhisg

I wash in cold or lukewarm water with Tide and I also use Lysol laundry sanitizer.
