DINING ROOM WALL MURAL

'Miss Mustard Seed' re-did this dining room a few years ago:

Not everyone is on board with painted landscape murals, but I love them ( more than wallpaper, which I tend to only like in powder rooms, for some reason ), as long as they are used sparingly, like in one room of the house.

Some magazine featured the one Sally Quinn ( of Sally Quinn and Ben Bradlee fame) had in her dining room, I think in an old historic Maryland house. I could never get it out of my mind-- it was such a romantic touch.

I think this one that Miss Mustard Seed did is super, adds a lot of interest. She hand painted it, using milk paints.

Rats, I can't seem to be able to get a bigger picture of the "After". Perhaps these slightly different perspectives will give a closer look at it.

I thought that the cupboard she has of various china and transfer ware that you see reflected in the mirror is pretty:

I love painted murals...on someone else's walls! Seriously, like so many things, I see the beauty but don't want it in my house.

I’m not a fan of wall murals. I guess it’s because they are a more European influence we don’t see here that much.

I wouldn’t have it done in my home, but I appreciate other people’s expression of who they are and what they enjoy.

@Oznell, I think this room is lovely! I took Early American painting lessons for years, and fell in love with the stenciled walls in one of my teacher's homes. I did stencil borders around my kitchen, dining room, and up and down hallways.

They are classic designs, back from the time when people had no access to wallpaper but wanted a special look in their home. This teacher also did stencil a floor cloth in her home, which is to stencil on heavy canvas to mock a rug.

Not everyone's taste to be sure, but I am loving this very modern and unusual effect on these walls. Thank you for finding these pictures and sharing them with all.

The mural is tasteful and lovely, The rest of the room is way, way too fussy for my taste. I think that "less is more" and this room has too much "more" in it for me. For those who like this esthetic ... enjoy,

I have always loved those beautiful wallpaper murals. And the beautiful large patterned ThibauXt (edit: do not answer posts and do Wordle at the same time x!) wallpaper in soft shades that cover large walls so well.

My mother had a painted one on her dining room and I often wonder if it is still there. . .

Although the mirror is beautiful, I don't think it plays well with this room. I do think a mirror reflects her beautiful cabinet and dishes therein but I think this mirror is too busy for that area. I would have preferred one with a bevel and no framework.

It's pretty but not for me. I prefer clean painted walls.

DH painted the kitchen, living room, entryway, bathrooms & hallway so far. Still need to paint the bedrooms plus the dining room could use some fresh paint.

I never put anything back on the walls. I want new wall art just don't know where to find what I want. Not sure what I want until I see it.

I had quite a few pieces of Home Interior on the walls. Not putting it back. It's old & dated.

@Oznell Thank you for taking the time to post so many varied and interesting pictures. I know I would never see them otherwise.

I often find myself "editing" the afters. I think the mural is lovely but I would let it speak for itself and remove the mirror entirely. I would also eliminate the cushions on the chairs. I love the cupboard and glassware and would leave it as is. In fact I have a passion for old cupboards, sideboards and built ins. They definitely give me a New England vibe which, due to my family's history, resonates strongly with me.

It's pretty but wouldn't be for me. I basically only like murals in a kid's bedroom.

The whole dining room isn't for me either and those ruffled seat cushions would be the first thing to go.

Exactly, @Enufstuff -- "soft" is the key word. The ones I like are soft, misty, and they seem to merge the landscape outside, with the inside, in a dreamy way.

Very nice transformation of the dining room. The changes make the room seem larger and more dimensional. Really like the landscape mural and the wide curvy mirror, along with the reflection of the tall cabinet and its contents. Love transferware ceramics. The white dining room chairs look like Louis XVI style.
