Storage containers

I purchased a set of 3 storage zippered containers for storing home items...clothing, blankets, etc. in my closet.

My change of season clothes go in space bags that are inside a canvas type zippered bag and are stored under the bed....and I never worry about moths... but I am wondering do I need to put something inside the new storage boxes to keep moths out of my husbands sweaters, which is what one of the new containers would be used for.

I guess I am thinking the air has been sucked out of the space bags I do not need to worry about moths.... but not out of the storage containers..maybe it makes no difference but thought I would ask.

I sure do not want to use moth balls!!

@Mom2Dogs. If the sweaters are wool, yes you do need a moth deterrent most definitely.

Also, make sure wool and other natural fiber sweaters are 100% clean and laundered before storing. Any soil or food particles will draw all types of buggy critters who will munch on your sweaters.

I had cedar balls and placed them in the seasonal items that I put away. Can be found at stores and other internet sites.

Why not put his sweaters in the space saver bags too before putting them in the storage container you purchased?

The space saver bags I have had for years are attached to the inside of canvas zippered bags I use for my clothes...purchased from QVC years ago. There are 4 of them, they fit perfectly under one of our beds.

The NEW storage containers are for my husbands sweaters and other winter things...he has less clothing than I have. The 3 containers that I just purchased will fit on the top shelf of his closet.

I would still buy some med/large space saver bags to vacuum package whatever you're putting in the new containers. You'll fit more in them and they'll keep better.

Speaking of space saver bags, I am getting ready to buy a few to store my cold weather comforters. If I put them in those bags and suck all the air out, won’t it make them a wrinkled mess when I open them again next year?

One other thing I remember from putting clothes in a small space saver bag a long time ago is when I opened it up, it had a strong plastic smell. Is that normal?

@Natureluvr Some of my things are wrinkled but I always run the clothes thru a rinse and spin cycle when I take them out of the bags.

I have never noticed a smell and I have used the bags for many years.
