What Does Your Housekeeper Do?

Other than dust and sweep and clean the kitchen and bathrooms, will he or she do other things on an occasional basis? Just curious!

Dust baseboards
Wash windows inside
Wash and change bedding
Polish woodwork

Or something else.

Not sure who has a "housekeeper" these days. To me that means someone who is around daily or almost.

I have a house cleaner who comes 2x/ month who cleans, just basics: dust, vacuum, baths, kitchen, mop- Sometimes cabinets get wiped or other small extras, but that's it-

No house cleaners routinely do windows, without charging an extra fee, if they do it at all- That's my experience.

Now if you get someone more frequent (a "housekeeper") and the tasks are defined upfront, maybe!

Housekeeper, maid, cleaning lady. Someone who comes around occasionally and is well paid to clean.

I am the housekeeper around here. I hate it. During my last review I told myself I needed a change in attitude and to do a better job. So far I haven't listened to myself.

She sweeps, vacuums, wet mops all floors (including baseboards) cleans all bathrooms, changes beds, wash, drys, folds sheets. Dust/polish furniture & mirrors, shelves and pictures & "bric-a-brac". Beautifully cleans and polishes kitchen and appliances including laundry room. Dusts all ceiling fans and light fixtures and vents. Cleans inside glass doors and windows and sills.

I must be the odd man out...I don't mind cleaing the house. I cannot wait until my broken shoulder is healed and I can get back to normal duties.

My husband is a big help these days but when it comes to really cleaning...that will have to wait for my return.

we have ours come in every other week unless something special is going on. we get the basics......light dusting in all rooms, vacuuming, kitchen, bathrooms, floors.....no bedding, no laundry, no windows, no baseboards.

several times a year they do a "deep clean" for us and usually twice a year to empty out glass or open cupboards and clean the glassware and display items. several times a year they shampoo the carpets. sometimes i have them come in to help me empty out and clean the refrigerators and freezers.

we have another company come in to do windows inside and out and powerwash the patios and walkways. they come once each season.

My parents' housekeeper works two days each week. She does all of the above. She cleans bathrooms and two kitchens. (The downstairs kitchen usually doesn't take much effort because that one is used one or two days each week for game or movie nights.) She vaccuums all the rooms with carpet and I'm not sure what she uses to clean the hard wood floors. She uses the Shark steam mop on the bathroom floors. My mom washes the sheets, and the housekeeper takes them from the dryer and puts them on the beds. Most of the time it's just my parents' bed, but when family visits, that could be up to 8 beds. She also folds and puts away the clean towels, and periodically, she dusts the window blinds except for the ones that require a ladder to reach.

She cleans the next door neighbor's house too. It's like she's become one of the family, and I appreciate all that she does.

My housekeeper, cooks, cleans, dusts, does windows and laundry. Baseboards (not often enough). She washes the dishes, does the beds. Yep, It's ME.

However, she needs a raise, since she already works two jobs. Some days she is on the Q forums between her duties. 🤣

Every 2 weeks, Vacuums, dusts including baseboards and ceiling, does hardwood floors however you do that, mops laundry room floor, cleans kitchen including shining up applicances and does bathrooms, cleans large front window inside and outside and storm door glass, makes bed as I have just crawled out when she comes at 9:30.

When it is time to do season clothes exchanges (a big job here) she comes an extra trip and does most of that, I do some that I can. And I can call her to come an extra day when there is a large job I want done that DH doesn't do. Sometimes he cleans fridge or kitchen cabinets and sometimes pay cleaner to do it.

Carpet cleaning is done by a carpet cleaning company.

When curtains need taken down and washed, cleaner does that on an extra day or DH takes them down and put them back up and I wash them. He doesn't like to do that tho. I changed out any that needed dry cleaning long ago as it got expensive and I wanted a lighter look.

DH does our windows, keeps the patio and front porch washed and swept, powerwashes the house, does the yard work and gardening. About the only thing he doesn't do is painting. DS painted the kitchen and hall last year.

I have never been interested in housecleaning, only in decorating it. Have been fortunate to always have had a cleaning person. Tried cleaning first two years of marriage when I was young and that was enough for me. I thought working all day at my job (which I loved) was enough and didn't want to come home and clean too.

I have alot of decor dusting that can be a job in itself. I do the washing and dusting of those and cleaning the inside of china and curio cabinet and dusting wall groupings, etc.

Although I can agree with those who like it or do it anyway that it can be good exercise

My housekeeper does whatever I need help with; straighten up, dust, vacuum, windows, changing beds, cleaning the litter box, moping floors, laundry, putting folded clothes away, washing dishes, loading& unloading the dishwasher - you name it. My housekeeper's name is Mr. Finch. Good thing I married him because I couldn't afford to pay for all that, and more, that he does!

My husband and I do all the house cleaning. He retired young and that has been a plus for me as I was still working. I am thinking about having someone clean the windows. Can't do what I used to.

I have a cleaning company come in twice a month.

They dust, polish my antiques with my lemon oil, vacuum, mop, and clean 2 1/2 baths and take out the trash.

They also change the sheets.

We do the 2 extra bedrooms on a light dusting and vacuum 1x a month.

Years ago, when a group of ladies cleaned for me, they got pup nose prints off of the deck door!
