Weird post! Trying to find the app mentioned on the local NY ABC news last night to measure the heat loss from your windows. I have searched their website with no luck. Thanks all

A few years ago I hired a company to evaluate my home for energy efficiency. An energy audit was done on my house. They said most of the heat transfers occur through windows and for an average home that transfer is about 30%. In other words, 30% of the heat inside your home is lost through your windows and as much as 40% can go out your ceilings into the attic and eventually out the roof in some cases.

@I am still oxox I think the app requires you to also have some kind of an IR camera to link to the app. Our electric company (PECO) offers free to $99.00 energy assessments. We had one done several years ago, and it was helpful.

Yes, a infra-red camera is needed for your phone as @PA Mom-mom mentioned. Those cost a couple hundred dollars. Using just your phone camera won't work with the app.

You should check with your electric company to see if they offer this.

We just had our electric company do one on our house yesterday. It's free of charge. They did blower door test, used infrared camera to show us hot/cold areas, changed all our light bulbs that were not LED to LED, hooked up surge protector, check all our windows/doors, put insulation pads in outlets that didn't have them, checked insulation in attic, looked at refrigerator, hot water heater, ac other appliances & electronics. He was looking at those to see if they are energy efficient or how old they are. That's what they grade you on. We got a grade of 8 out of 10. He said nobody gets a 10. Everything got an 8 or 9 grade except our AC. It only got a 3 because it's 24 years old. LOL!!! We are trying to decide if we should buy a new one now or wait until the new refrigerant they use comes out next year. It was supposed to come out this year but didn't. Don't want a new unit that uses the new stuff until they work out all the issues.

We are going to install a new storm front door plus add insulation wrap on some pipes on hot water heater.

The exhaust fan in our bedroom is like a hole in the ceiling so we will be fixing that.

They also emailed us a 15 page report in a pdf to see what was done.

@I am still oxox I think you might check with the development HOA or admin to see if Con Ed can do an evaluation. As @Nightowlz elaborated, you might be able to get an evaluation without making a big investment.

Yes, exactly like a "hole in the ceiling". Same goes for the exhaust fan over my stove. When it got below zero with the last arctic blast, I covered that with a piece of aluminum foil. I never use that exhaust fan over my stove anyways. It does go directly out to my roof. I taped a piece of thick plastic over the bathroom exhaust fan. But I removed it once it got warm enough outside. Man that cold arctic air was coming down from that vent like crazy...freezing in there.

I don't know why it's like that. The one in the other bathroom is not like it. There's no problem with it. I know the toilet seat in there is always cold in the winter. I'll be glad to get it fixed to see if I can feel a difference.

How are you going to fix that exhaust fan?

I saw somewhere that they make some kind of anti-downdraft thing that goes above the fan itself in the space above. I think you have to remove the fan first to install that thing. Not sure but I won't be doing it. I'm working on my own invention to solve the problem where I can just put something over the grill. Something removable/replaceable.

It's really old so one thing we will remove it & go from there. If we need to patch the ceiling so we can install one in ceiling in different area. Surely they sell some that don't have the large open hole. Whatever we have in the other bathroom is not like that? I don't really know anything about them but sure I will find out while trying to fix the issue. I saw some on Lowe's site that look like a light on the ceiling not an exhaust fan. Wondering if they wouldn't leave the large hole. Home Depot shows some exhaust fans that look like a light that says with no cut design. Not sure how it works without reading more about it. I will be researching to find what we need.
