HISTORIC CATSKILL COTTAGE

Designer Amanda Reynal did a nice job on "bringing back" this old, historic cottage, so representative of the quaint Catskill "artist colony" style. Although a wee bit on the 'froo-froo' side for me, it's very well done--

A pleasant sitting area, that functions almost as a sunroom too--

I think the painted motto near the ceiling in this casual room is original to the 19th or early 20th century of the space--

Love the interesting "stepped" style of the brick fireplace--

I wouldn't say no to a bedroom fireplace...

Beautiful porch--

Love upstate New York. The house reminds me of old-school Scandinavian country cottages, a breath of fresh air. Things I like about it are-- the frequent use of the combo of blue and green, attention to comfort, painted floors, painted ceilings, built-in benches, old fashioned rocking chairs, vintage pottery and wicker, lots of light pouring in, and an air of cheer.

I have some smiles and "no's".

I wish I could see the outside of the home, although, the door is the Mission (Arts and Crafts) style.

The living area is nice but the four tufted chairs are tedious.

I would prefer some variety.

In the casual room, more tufted chairs with no arms; too many similar designs. Also, really have always disliked the style of the arm chair to the right, and not a fan of a built in bench where an antique can go.

The green bedroom with the fire place is poorly designed with the bed in front of the window.

Liked it until I saw the bedroom with the fireplace....it's a no for me on the colors and staging of this room.

@Oznell I lived in Upstate NY, and this home has that feel. This cottage is pretty big. I like how it was decorated.

I believe that it was the Germans that had the 2nd story overhang.

Still, I see several Mission Arts and Crafts style.

The outside colors don't have unity with the interior.

I prefer the dining room, the hall bench, and back porch

@Oznell - It's not my "cup of tea," but I would find it hard to say no to a bedroom fireplace too!

I am trying to think of what I would do in the first bedroom. I kind of like the architecture, and the blue floor intrigues me. I don't like the style of the bed. I would probably make it more Asian, with a very light pink and gold leaf. I like the white lotus garden stool, but I'm not crazy about the wicker chair. I would choose one with a tighter weave.

Overall, quite a pretty place. Some nice elements, along with some I'd ditch and some pretty use of color choices too. Although I've seen the same (or similar) bed many times before, covet the wooden bed. That said and as noted before, this decorator overdoes the whole symmetry thing, She also appears to stuff a bit too much into most rooms.

What a beautiful house in a beautiful setting!! I really like most of the rooms except for that second sitting room and the bedroom. I'd have to completely refurnish those two. My favorite room is the first sitting room although I'd have to tweak a few things. I also agree with @stevieb about the symetry being over done.

I like the exterior and the architectural details inside. I love the sunroom & outdoor eating area. I'm not a fan of the tufted chairs or printed drapes, but I like most of the other furnishings, accessories, and rooms. The one exception is the bedroom with the polka dot wallpaper. The furniture is ok, but I don't care for that wallpaper or color scheme at all.

My white painted brick fire placed is stepped also, but only at the top and in the reverse of the one pictured.

There are four steps, graduating from the bottom step up, with the mantle the deepest step.

I love that this cottage is in the country, but not rustic. Just my style. Very pretty rooms and colors, in a great setting.

The interior furnishings, drapes, etc are just not for me.
