CHRISTMAS TABLE WARE

I was noticing that One Kings Lane still has their alluring Christmas wares front and center. Love Christmas dishes, all the classics, tartan plaid patterns, Spode, etc., but I personally can't justify having them, since I don't have room for a whole set that I can use for a short period of time.

One pattern I might have considered, since people use it all year round, and it has plenty of winter scenes, would be "Friendly Village"-- it's festive all the time, and has sentimental family connections for me--

One Kings Lane had a pattern from Portugal that's unfamiliar to me, but so pretty. It's got that airy, light, kind of fairy tale feeling I like-- "Country Estate" by Juliska. I like it, even though red wouldn't be my first choice for color--

Lighting is making the reds look different in these shots, but it's the same pattern--

But there are so many great "winter" china patterns. Do you have a favorite, and if so, do you own any pieces?

@Oznell My mother gave me a very old set of blue china with a winter scene. Unfortunately, they're stored so I wasn't able to get a picture. I do have another old set that really doesn't have a winter scene, but I've often used them for Christmas dinner. They're just pretty. Like yourself, I'd never invest in an expensive set of dishes that could only be used for Christmas, but I do like a wintry scene. Those you've included are beautiful. I'll try to get a picture of the pinkish/red dishes I mentioned.

I am fortunate to have the Lenox holiday pattern. My mom started buying pieces for me when I was in my teens for Christmas. I love it. I get mine out immediately after Thanksgiving and use it until I'm ready to change the table and china cabinet over to "spring". At that point, I use my mom's wedding china which is a cream with an aqua border.

I do love the china patterns you have shown.

I've been collecting Lenox Winter Greetings for quite a few years. I love it as much now as I did then.

Oh, boy it's great that you all are giving the patterns you use.

@cheriere , that "English Abbey is beautiful!! I love the serene, timeless country motif, very much my thing, and that softened pink/red. I like that shade better in yours than in the "Country Estate" pattern.

@GinaV24 , you get wonderful, long use out of your classic "Holiday", which, were I lucky enough to have it, I would too. It must give such a festive feeling to take it out around Thanksgiving for the season.

@DSD2 , "Winter Greetings" is a stunner, and another that you could use for a long period of time in the fall/winter. Do all the plates have that adorable cardinal? Any china with birds is so appealing...

I love the Johnson Brothers Friendly Village pattern, they are one of my favorites. I love snowy winter scenes. Only have a few pieces of it - four mugs, which we use year-round (similar to the one pictured below), and the teapot:

Also have pieces from two other Johnson Brothers patterns: Heritage Hall (mom gave to me when she got other dishware), and a few pieces of the Old Britain Castles (got for my husband who loves ruins).

I was born and raised in a community that made pottery and china. I have so many dishes w/the holiday theme. One of my favs is the 12 days of Christmas.

The china company also made china that was used in the White House. I remember touring the White House and seeing some of pieces from Castleton China.

@ECBG , your charming Christmas china fits so well with your antiques and house, with its lovely folk motifs. Love that it has frolicking gingerbread men, PLUS birds!

@QVCisFun , your "Friendly Village" mugs are darling, with the covered bridge motif. So lucky to have a teapot too. If I were starting all over, I do think I would collect "Friendly Village".

I've always loved "Old Britain Castles" ! It has that warm pinkish red color similar to @cheriere 's "English Abbey"--

The only Christmas china I can lay claim to is a couple of pieces of "Merry Christmas", also by Johnson Brothers, and also with that cozy feeling that "Friendly Village" has.

They were my mother's -- one reglar teacup and saucer, and one straight-sided ( coupe?) small teacup and saucer--

I like to use them as decor pieces at Christmas. Love the way they have the Christmas trees inside the cups...

@Group 5 minus 1 , that is a great idea, to have china based on the 12 days of Christmas! It would be so much fun to have a partridge in a pear tree, five golden rings, ten lords a'leaping, etc. all in one festive set!

I would have loved a separate set of dinnerware for the holidays in my younger days----I do have fiestaware that I use everyday and have a few separate patterns for each holiday that I use----but I would need a hutch to store dinnerware and there isn't any extra room in my tiny apartment for that. and at almost 70, I really don't feel the need for a whole new dinnerware set.

Thanks @Oznell - I love to look at table settings!

Here's our Christmas table from last year.

My dishes are Longaberger "Holly." There is no turkey on the table because DH was probably carving it when I took the picture. We have a tea cart next to DH , and out of camera range, it would sit on.

The table and chairs were my parents' patio set. I remember going somewhere in Savannah with my mom to pick it up. When DH and I got our first house it was our dining room table. I tried to refinish it by myself. That didn't work out so well. Every time we moved the movers would ask if we would sell it. We finally had it professionally done. It's a dark green (looks black here), and the chairs have a fabric that was my mom's. I treasure it, and I hope my children will too!

The gifts on the table are a tradition from my mom's family. We call them "table gifts," something small and unexpected we open after we say the prayer.
