CALIFORNIA CHRISTMAS

"Blu Canoe" is a vintage and antique dealer and blogger, on Balboa Island in California.. Have shown her style before, but not many of her beautifully understated, Christmas looks--

I like the way she incorporates her regular decor, like that adorable vintage iron pup, into her holiday scapes--

She has done slightly more intricate mantels, like this below....

...which are pretty, but I tend to gravitate to her simpler, very natural ones. Love the basket with foliage and fat candles..

But this one is my overall favorite--

Like the way she combines things like that collection of paint brushes, with her winter pine cones and blooms...

Ha, he could be a brooding character from Dickens' Christmas classic, "Scrooge", but she has him hanging year 'round. Just those two little vintage ornaments on a stool, plus the greenery, are all she needs...

I like it although those brushes seem silly and out of place. While I liked the pic with the towels and the wreaths hanging in front of the fireplace, my first thought as a former cat owner is "well she doesn't have cats!" HAHA

Very pretty. The decorations gently murmur "Christmas".

I love the tiny tables in the first picture! And of course, the sweet dog.

It is a bit too understated (I love lights and glamour) but tranquil and restful.

@JudyL , oh, do you mean those striped burlap-looking ties with the mini wreaths? I think I can see some kitties wanting to tangle with those! For some reason, my three cats don't interfere with decorations-- once, one of them batted at a low-hanging ornament, but got bored quickly. I'm lucky that way, but they make up for it with other naughtiness...

@DSD2 , ha, ha, I know what you mean about lights and glamour. I veer from liking super classic Ralph Lauren-like Christmases and the historic luxe of my beloved Carolyne Roehm, to this simple, nature-accented Blu Canoe crunchy-organic approach, which is never as popular. Both appeal to me mightily. One extreme to the other.

Was out on the peninsula last week, but never made went over to Balboa Island. Would've loved to have browsed the shops.

Ironically, I did pick up some brass bells in Laguna Beach (Tuvala---love that shop!). I hung them on the back door so I can hear when someone comes in---door is too quiet! Now I have a nice little jingle. Keeping them up year round....

Was on a mission to find a pair of Foo Dogs for my SIL while on a 5 day vacation. Mission accomplished Day 5 in San Clemente.

Love those shiny copper bells/molds. Like the paint brushes as part of the decor, the decorative cabbage plant, the rabbit statues, the three blue and white speckled pitchers on the mantel, and the painting in photo number eight.

Her place looks like it might be very fragrant with the variety of greenery, flowers, eucalyptus leaves, and possible herbs in her decorations.

My personal style leans more toward Modern & Contemporary but I do have a few antiques scattered throughout my home. However, most of this decor is just too primitive for me. I do like a few things here and there though and I love all the bells.

Oh, boy, @Lucky Charm , living up to your name, lucky, lucky you to have had a California interlude this time of year!! And getting to poke around in the shops, etc. I love bells (and bunnies, @kindred cats , and similar blankets, @Puzzle Piece ....). Also, Foo dogs-- when I left New Orleans, I gave my celadon ones away, and have regretted it....

@QVCisFun , I do believe you are right-- those "bells" she has out, could be molds! Especially since that one doesn't seem to have a clapper. They are so pretty, and in a more muted space, they give just the touch of shine needed...

(Oops, edited to add-- For clarity, meant to say it's the shiny copper bells that might be molds, not the pale blue ones on the wreaths. )

Glad you "get" the paintbrush thing too, among others...

Confession-- I was VERY tempted to post that image with the twin owls, but said, OK, oznell, for once try to stick to the "theme" of the thread, which is Christmas, ha. But it is so beautifully representative of her fresh, yet romantic and warm style-- am very glad you posted it. Also love the wire basket, upended bucket as table, etc.

Yes I do like rustic style--in fact I like modern rustic ---with a little bit of industrial thrown in--am a huge fan of mid century too.

Love it all, but most especially the iron dog and the adorable live puppy. The bunnies are cute too. All the above would find a loving home in my house.
