HOW ABOUT CHRISTMAS TEA IN LONDON?

Another purely frivolous escape. An amiable English blogger named Hannah Ricketts enjoys visiting landmark places in London, her hometown, and then posting the experience for people who would be interested.

She and her sister, Natalie, decided to film their outing to a Christmas tea offered at the venerable Ritz Hotel in London, and review the experience.

First she briefly leads us down some fun shopping streets in London, above. Note the store just to the left of Breitling watches. It's the world famous Smythson stationer-- the ones who do fancy stationery and monograms etc. for people all over the world. I'd love to tour that store! I may have been there, or at another branch when I was in London, a million years ago...

Entering the busy Ritz.

The sisters loved the Christmas decorations--

They had dressed with care-- Natalie in her faux Chanel jacket, Hannah in her pretty eyelet dress...

Peeking into one of the other iconic restaurants in the Ritz. One of the waiters is ironing the tablecloth, prior to admitting customers, ha.

The actual tea room, below, was festive and bustling. Finally! By the way, they had to make their reservations for Christmas tea in August!

Brace yourself. This tea is 105 pounds per person!! Hannah said their regular, non-Christmas tea is 70 pounds. Still outrageous. They do get champagne, along with their sandwiches, scones, fancy cakes and different varieties of tea....

I love cucumber sandwiches, and breast of chicken with chestnut and sage stuffing sandwiches on malt bread, sounds good too.... The girls did rave about the food.

The only fancy hotel English tea I've ever had, is the one at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans-- wonder how they compare??

Trivia the sisters were sharing-- if you are from Devonshire, you put the clotted cream on your scone first, then the jam. If you are from Cornwall, it's jam first, then cream. ( I think...)

They really liked the gentle, professional service. They said there was absolutely nothing "snooty" about any of it (there had better not be-- one hopes the Ritz knows better than that...).

I enjoyed their video adventure, which you can find at Hannah Ricketts youtube. Better they be spending their money wildly, than me. But they had a wonderful time.

Almost forgot: Hannah had shown the Ritz ladies' room (below) before in another video-- and a lot of viewers hated it! Found it tacky, especially the murals.

I think it's amusing and atmospheric, in that sort of Fifties', slightly cracked, pastel fantasy, utterly British way...

The Empress Hotel is closer and I experienced a magnificent High Tea there decades ago. (Vancouver Island)

@Oznell Thank you! I just watched the video. I just had London Christmas tea! 🎄☕️🥂I doubt I will get to London, so it was fun to watch. Nice elegant afternoon. Everything looked amazing. It would be a fun day with several forum posters I enjoy. You are certainly one of them. I would have to invite the what's cooking ladies in the kitchen forum too!

@Oznell What a lovely post. The Ritz Hotel is beautiful and the restaurant and tea room are lovely with their Christmas decor.

Such a gorgeous setting for an elegant Christmas Tea. Thank you for posting this. Having afternoon tea at the Ritz in London,is something that I would really enjoy.

The only hotels that I have had tea at were the Princess and Elbow Beach hotels in Bermuda. It was very British and elegantly done.

For ten years, I did Valentine Tea parties for my daughters and grand daughters. For all the grand daughters' tenth birthdays, I had tea parties for them.

If anyone is interested in having their own tea party, I can post a simple recipe for my home made "clotted cream".

To me, it is much easier to put the clotted cream on top of the preserves, when preparing your scone.
