Sofa, etc. Professional Cleaning?

Does anyone have this done? Happy with the results?

This will be a first for me for my white Pennsylvania House Queen Ann sofa. The one where my DD wrote all over the back with a blue crayon. I don't remember how I got the blue off, but you -- I -- can still tell where that was.

It's been easier to dress the sofa with an afghan and then launder that. But it is time for the professionals to come in!

@Harpa I had my sofa and wing back chair cleaned last month. The cleaning really brightened up the chair, not much change in the sofa but there were no stains or dirt on the sofa.

I was hoping for a cleaner 'smell' after the cleaning but I did not notice anything.

To me it was worth the money...$125.00 for both.

iI've had this done in past years and furniture but ever since I purchased my steamer I do it myself. Paid for the steamer in one cleaning. I have GSD dogs so it's much easier for me to do the cleaning than hiring someone.

Stanley Steamer has cleaned and scotchguarded every sofa we've ever owned; always been pleased with the result.

Had it done years ago, maybe 10 years ago in my old house with a sofa and loveseat. I think it was almost $200. It looked good, and clean. But still don't think it was worth what I paid.

This particular sofa you cannot steam. Not like my other chairs & things.

They took the sofa outside in the bright sunlight, which will help things along. I am happy to get the refresh & cleaning!

I used Stanley for years until I got the dogs. Stanley does a great job. I'm just glad that I can do it myself when I have the time. Good luck.

@Fressa My steamer does a great job, too, for floors, carpets & other upholstery. Indispensible if you have a pet! (We just have a visiting one.)

Harpa--It's a nice convenience to have the steamer in your closet to tackle those issues when they happen. Whether it's dog/s messes or salsa it's great to just get the machine from the closet.

You can actually clean furniture yourself, with less chemicals in a more cost-effective way.

Nancy Birtwhistle's "dry-ish" cleaning of furniture & soft furnishings:

2 Tbsp washing soda

2 Tbsp eco-friendly dish liquid

300 ml warm water

bicarb in a sugar shaker (optional)[bicarb = baking soda]

shower puff

dry towel

Put washing soda and dish liquid in a medium bowl and add warm water. Swirl around with your hand until the crystals have dissolved. Add the shower puff and work at the solution until the suds rise to the suface and the bowl is filled with white suds.

Rub only the suds onto the upholstery and massage over the whole area with the shower puff. If the furniture being cleaned is pale-colored, then a sprinkle bicarb (about 1 Tbsp in total over a square meter) can be added and massaged in further. Sprinkle of bicarb is also useful to work on stains and marks. Leave furniture for 15 minutes, then return and rub over again with the shower puff. Use the dry towel to rub away the suds and any bicarb paste. The furnishings will only be very slightly dampa nd should be left to dry for a few hours before using. (Works on upholstery in the home, RVs, and cars.)

I've used this method on pale grey, almost silver-y upholstery where pets like to nap. Worked like a dream! And yes, if you have pale-colored furniture (or anything, really), sunshine will help tremendously.

Several years ago I got a used recliner couch on craigslist for $75, and paid more than that to have it professionally cleaned, and it was worth it, it made it look brand new. It was shocking to see how dirty the water was coming out of it.

Another reason I had to clean it was the former owner was a crazy cat lady and unfortunately I didn't realize the couch I brought home had fleas. The cleaning took care care of the flea problem too.

This fabric was something I could not steam, so I'm very happy I had it done! A father & son did the job, and they were here for close to 3 hours. The charge was nominal, we thought.
