LOW-KEY CHANGES FOR FALL INTERIORS

Always enjoy a retailer like One Kings Lane, for the very subtle fall-influenced rooms they show this time of year.

They positioned this one as "fall", which some people might question. Maybe fall-ish?

Even though I like more 'overt' fall stuff too, like pumpkins and gourds, I like what they did here. Autumn, for me, is a time when I can pull out, or emphasize my:

1) Black items, and black-and-white. Year round, I have two black iron sconces, and two iron lamps. But can add to that-- a pair of black folk/tribal looking vases, chunky black candle holder.

2) Amber glass. One hurricane, two vintage brown medicine bottles.

3). Concrete (?!). The lamp in the vignette is so neat, and earthy. I have just one concrete item, that I also love during the fall season-- a fluted, midcentury-looking concrete planter. Looks good filled to the brim with pinecones.

4). Brown leather, "gold", and unlacquered brass.

5). Black and white photos. For me, another year round item, but especially good in fall. Isn't that nest in the vignette great?

I had to look it up- it's a "weaver bird" nest! I don't decorate for Hallowe'en at all, but love the slight spookiness of that art photo...

Then they pulled out, and showed the entire room, rearranged a little--

How pretty the terra cotta tiles are in this context. Love the brown and white ceramic jars and garden stool, and that skinny bench over in the corner, with the basket and big black pitcher... Don't they call a narrow bench like that, a cobbler's bench, or something like that, can't remember.

Sigh, with an atrium-like room like that, you could do so much!

Wow.

I'd make one change. The huge vase on the table would have to move to the corner, near the window, on the floor.

It's too large and obstructing my view.

😹 Love the room, bright, fresh and airy.

You don't have to overdecorate to make a statement.

The only thing I would suggest is the addition of two black or white kittens.

I would love to have that area to decorate , it is so spacious and inviting. I put a lot of faux fall foliage in different size vases throughout my rooms and I would do the same in this area. I would add some art work and put a seasonal table cloth on the table to perk it up. With those beautiful windows, you do not need to overdo it in the decor department unless of course that is your taste. Fall decorating for me is always fun and this room would be enjoyable to start the seasons.

Love that atrium-type room! Simple,elegance...

The open airiness of the arched windows is amazing. I love that the walls and trim are painted in a matching white paint it just draws your eyes outward. Also love the terra cotta tiles with the white walls, beautiful.

Quite the beautiful quiet space for relaxing . . . perhaps we could incorporate a cozy lounge chair for me.

I would be glued to the beautiful windows!

I love the mirror and table in the first shot but the picture is overwhelming (and not my taste. The table looks very nice in the second shot.

I love everything in the second shot, very tastefully done and there is just the right amount of furniture. Although I like the vase it seems too big for the relatively small dining table. The flooring and lighting are perfect. That stool is lovely.

The additions of those kittens would be just the touch, @ManyMeows ! Now that you mention that, I remembered one more "traditional" fall element that I almost always incorporate somewhere-- an owl. Have a chunky brown owl vase that's good for a slightly kooky accent with some fall foliage...

Architecturally, that's a great space. I think I'd like to see it decorated with furniture that is a darker colored wood. I like the mixture of styles.

The entire room is ok but I seriously need some plants or SOMETHING.

The first photo, while striking, is very depressing.

The space is lovely, the decor, in spite of some nice elements, is rather MEH... Even given one doesn't need to be inundated with pumpkins and turning leave to anticipate fall, I'm just not seeing much of a fall vibe in this space.

Oh, thanks for posting, those are gorgeous, weathered and well-used benches, @ECBG ! The last one looks like it really means business, bristling with all those little cobbler-type attachments.

Those who want more fall foliage and plants in the room are right-- that room was made for that. I don't object at all to the typical, flaming colors of fall lighting up a space.

As a counterpoint, I do esp. like the mix of black, and a rich russet brown together, like in this room, especially once fall has really launched. It's a combo that signals that summer, as light-hearted as it was, is really over...
