BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN LIVING ROOM

Don't know why lately I'm liking rooms and houses in the mountains so much! The appeal of escapism...

This one is the vacation house of interior designer Maggie Griffin. Love her use of colorful vintage art, esp. over the mantel, her beams, and painted fireplace. For some reason, am never taken that much by plaid upholstery, personally, but the chairs do look comfy. This room gives me a 'sheltering' feeling.

The art showing faraway places, subtly suggests this is a vacation getaway. Love her lamps, pottery, the peek at a staircase, the generous French doors bringing in the outside.

I could stay right in that living room, but here are a few other areas...

I would spend my days curled up on the lovely blue chaise lounge chair on the bright and airy porch. Fresh flowers, pretty pillow and a comfortable throw is my idea of heaven on a sunny spring/summer day.

I also love the gleaming hardwood floors in the dining room; the beams, chandelier and all of the light streaming in.

The porch is so cute. I also like the bedroom.

I don't care for the furniture and decor in the living room and dining room. I would redecorate with a more comfortable, warm ,and cozy feel for a vacation home in the Mts.

The bones of the rooms are nice, however, there is TOO MUCH STUFF. I would suffocate in those rooms and there is so much visual stimulation.

I don't find it calming, but hey, to each their own, right?

I would like the living room if those ugly checked chairs were a neutral color, and the blue fireplace was neutral color, fewer pictures and "stuff" on the walls, and keep the coral sofa, and a few touches, pillows of a coral and soft blue.

@Oznell I really like the colors and the house itself, but I agree with others who say there is just too much stuff in the rooms and on the walls. When we vacation, we want to rest and refresh our minds and spirits. This is just too busy.

@tends2dogs has said exactly the effect it had on me. Way too cluttered for me to relax in. Most of that stuff would have to go for it to be my idea of a "retreat".

(Truthfully, the very first word that came to me, when I looked at the living room was claustrophobic.)

It's a very cute and charming house inside and out although not my style. I'd have to tweak some things and would totally redo the dining room.

@Oznell,

I'm drawn to your first sentence about escapism. For me, I think of the ocean, for my sister, the mountains. I guess many think of their happy place to escape

I would really admire the dining room if I visited but without the uncomfortable chairs. It looks so airy and grand, reaching toward the sky.

And yes, for me too-too many colors and things all over so I wouldn't find it relaxing. It looks like a nice view of trees though. And

it needs a dog

There's much to like here (including the plaid chairs), but I'd ditch at least half of the decorative items and the lamps.

Ugh. Those lamps....

The house and its surroundings do have a feeling of being in the mountains. I do like the space of the rooms although I would change some of he furnishings to suit my taste. I love the art work and drapes which enhance the rooms. Spending time there would be an escape and I would feel relaxed and content. I love the mountains and the ocean, that would be my ideal, having both.

I'm having trouble positioning the living room in the house. Behind the unused (?) blue exterior front door?

If there's some kind of entranceway behind the blue door, this "living room" might not have any actual windows of its own. It's hard to tell if the window to the right of the blue door is in this room.

I couldn't live with it.

I don't like the barn-like design on the left exterior side.
I don't understand the second blue door. Assuming that was part of the original structure?

I like the living & dining rooms and the porch. I don't like the flags over the beds.

A 2 story house is a big NO to me, period. Several of the rooms pictured are nice, but I am not into decorating every single wall and surface in a home. My eyes see a ton of clutter here; I am a minimalist with everything.

@Oznell I love this house. In fact, I love it so much that I've posted it before both here and over on another thread. Not meant to be in any way critical, as it goes back at least a few years. Anyway, to me, this house, inside and out, is pretty, it's livable, it's cozy and it would make me feel safe and comforted. Of course, there are things I'd not have chosen and things I'd change, but not a whole lot. Especially love the dining room and screen porch.
