Do not put raw onions down the disposal! That really leaves a lingering stench!

Hi All: The rubber collar ( the rubber " fringed " part ) that sits in your drain that you put the food thru to grind up, has developed a terrible smell. I pulled it out and washed and scrubbed it, but there is still a lingering odor. Our other disposal lasted 18 years as I am VERY careful about what I throw down there, ( no banana peels, pickles, nothing really slimy etc. ) and this is the same model so to speak. I put in ice cubes to keep the blades sharp and a wedge of lemon periodically to erase odors as I used to do with the old unit which never gave me any trouble ! I was hoping for suggestions if anyone else has had this problem...TIA....

Now that you have cleaned the rubber collar, is the odor still coming from it or do you think the odor is coming from somewhere inside the garbage disposal? If the odor is still coming from the rubber collar you could buy a new one for fairly cheap (under $5) at a local home improvement store. If the odor is coming from inside the disposal, you could try a disposal cleaner as recommended by the manufacturer on their website.

Thanks itsmagic....I do believe it is the rubber collar and that sits right @ the hole for where a drain would go....I am definitely going to try and replace it..or I may just call the company if the smell continues. Thanks again for the suggestions !
