I pulled it out and washed and scrubbed it, but there is still a lingering odor. Our other disposal lasted 18 years as I am VERY careful about what I throw down there, ( no banana peels, pickles, nothing really slimy etc. ) and this is the same model so to speak. I put in ice cubes to keep the blades sharp and a wedge of lemon periodically to erase odors as I used to do with the old unit which never gave me any trouble ! If the odor is still coming from the rubber collar you could buy a new one for fairly cheap (under $5) at a local home improvement store.
