Does any own a tankless water heater?

Do you have any opinions?

We looked into them and found out you also need a water softener because if you have hard water like we do it will not work unless you install one to keep the scale from forming a voiding the warranty. We decided against it.

We've had one for years. No problems. We do not have a water softener.

We have one....we love it. No water softener needed and it does the trick.

We havve one and we love it .... that being said .. we do have naturally soft

water .. in our old house the water was very hard so not sure it would have

worked there .....

If we ever own a single family home again, we would definitely install a tankless water heater. The one time our water tank leaked, we were fortunate to be home otherwise it would have been a disaster. I see no downside to the tankless ones.

The downside I hear about is a tankless water heater can still leak -- within the walls.

We have a tankless water heater (Navien).

We got it because we have lots of family coming to stay with us and we never run out of hot water for showers and baths. Three people can be showering at a time.

The downside is, you have to run your water for a while for it to get hot. I hate wasting water and capture as much as I can in a huge pitcher. I use it for plants on the deck or my houseplants.

It probably takes a full gallon before water starts to warm.

@hopi .........Not presently, but have had in the past. They are the greatest thing since hard ends on shoe laces.

DS bought a home a year ago that has a tankless water heater. The home is only a year old. The water heater was already acting up...they had to install a water softening system pretty quick because the water is so hard. I guess whether they work well depends upon whether your water is hard or soft.

Been very pleased with ours. Not sure of the brand. We did install a water softener. They might wear out faster without a water softener...not sure.

We got one a year ago and love it. No problems. My DH just did a "flush" so it's all clean on the inside. Very easy to maintain unlike the regular water heaters. So nice when you have company. Never run out of hot water.

You have hard water with no water softener? You are ruining all of your water using appliances you know.

@Lucky Charm My sister has one and she also said it takes longer to heat the water.

I HATE ours. We have a house with long plumbing runs and it takes forever and a day to get hot water. Plus we have to have maintenance done on it about once a year or so.

Guess what's on the END of the run? MY bathroom sink.

My water heater needs replacing & I was considering tankless. My HVAC guy said it was not feasible for me living alone. Plus we have very hard water.
