NEW YORK PENTHOUSE

Posting this, not because I'd want to live there, but just as a fun peek at a very "luxe", very New York, fancy apartment, by Alexander Doherty--

The colors don't seem to showing that true, oddly. The arm chair with ottoman in other shots looks green. The recessed, gilded ceiling you get a glimpse of, is not a "bright" gold in other shots I've seen, it's more subdued.

I LOVE the vintage Art Deco pottery in the foreground.

Here's designer Alexander Doherty in the library, and you can see that gilding in the back of the bookshelves. That's more the true color of the living room ceiling but it's still not quite accurate. Rats! It's looking greenish-gold here, sigh.

Anyway, I'm getting distracted by the ceiling. Let's go back! Here was the apartment before Doherty got ahold of it. Pretty sterile--

I will say that Doherty managed to "warm it up". I like the oversized rectangular bookshelves in the library.

A farther back perspective. That has to be a custom rug.

The walls in most of these public rooms are cozily box paneled in a light, cerused oak.

The kitchen is fairly intimate, given the larger, overall space of the apartment--

He seems to like little hits of a flame-colored, orangey-red. which isn't in my favorite range of colors, but adds a certain liveliness.

Another example of him injecting that red. What a view!!!

A hallway that shows that no surface in the apartment has been untouched. Have you noticed the interesting lighting?

I think this is more of an entrance hallway, given the formality of the inlaid marble--

Speaking of marble, here's one of those classic, old school black-and-white bathrooms, with a towel warmer in the corner. Fred and Ginger territory. It's stunning-- I'm getting vertigo though!

Night time in the apartment. I'd like to go to a party here, as long as I could keep a safe distance from the slightly harrowing, floor-to-ceiling windows....

Speaking of square inches ... any idea how many sq ft this residence is? I lived in a high rise building for 20 years, and the scenery can make the actual space look much bigger. Always a good selling point.

I also thought some of the lighter colored rooms made it look like a summer decor. In the midst of winter in NYC, I would think the decor would be changed to a few darker accents, at least. Just speculating, of course.

It is beautiful, in its own way. I don't care for the decor and the color schemes in the entire place. But.....if someone were to say to me, "Here, Cheryl, it is all yours for free", I would quickly learn to love it!

I like it but I agree with you about the windows. I'd feel like I was going to fall.

I think the pottery looks out of place and would like some of my own art work.

Oznell, like you, I thought the Art Deco pottery was wonderful. The kitchen is my favorite room, cozy and intimate, loved the white cabinets and the marble. The bathroom is also beautifully done.

I'm from Jersey and spent many nights marveling at the NY skyline which is on sublime display here. I didn't care for most of the decor, too much gold and wood. However, I'm sure there are many admirers who would love to live here.

Seems odd that a place that big wouldn't have at least a small terrace ... with greenery and a beautiful sitting area.

I'd take the Penthouse with that view (WOW!!!) but I'd have to pretty much replace everything but a piece or two. The bathroom was stunning but I wouldn't want marble floors unless it was textured.

I like the Kitchen and Bath but would redecorate the remainder of the apartment. The apartment is gorgeous ...I love the windows.

Such a beautiful space.....The decor is not my style, but I can appreciate the beautiful space and the spectacular views....

When someone says NY Penthouse, this is what I would envision!

Sure, folks can pick it apart, but the apartment is absolutely beautiful and so is the view of New York. You may not be able to see it today, but you can't see anything on the East Coast either.

It's a stellar apartment and beautifully done, if not necessarily to my taste. I could never live in a penthouse. Views aside, I don't like heights.

He's quite a talented designer. I could never have envisioned the floor plan the way he did. Lovely apartment. I'm also not a fan of heights and would stay away from those floor to ceiling windows. 😨

The views are spectacular! Love the windows. My favorite space is the kitchen. I like the wood with the white countertops. I also like the table & orange/red chairs. There are 2 very nice lacquer wooden cabinets in the photo with the red bench & skyline view. The sofas look comfortable too. Not a fan of the bathroom which is just too much white for me.
