Which Do You Regularly Use On Your Table?

For daily meals do you use a cloth table cloth, a cloth place mat, or a plastic place mat?

I have always used cloth place mats for daily meals and most holidays to protect the antique wood. I have Christmas place mats for every day in December, but I use a red tablecloth for Christmas dinner.

@ECBG Our dining room table is usually bare or has woven placemats, if necessary. For holidays, we use a tablecloth. Our kitchen table has a vinyl tablecloth. We usually eat at the kitchen table or at the coffee table in the family room.

Some kind of holiday placemats. Some plastic,some not plastic.

I also have dishes that are holiday themed (some holidays,not all).

we have a glass top kitchen table. i always use a tablecloth although i do have some placemats. i just feel like tablecloths are much easier to keep clean and looking good than placemats.

etsy is a great place to find vintage tablecloths.

None of the above. Bare kitchen table. But I usually eat sitting in my recliner, holding my plate. I eat a lot of salads so they're easy to eat that way.

Only use deep red placemats from BB&B at Christmas. Otherwise, it's just the wood table showing through. When I had our antique farm table refinished, I opted for what was called a "bar" finish that resists water, heat and scratches.

We use placemats made from cowhide. I also have others. I have several tablecloths but rarely use them anymore

I have a ton of decorative place mats! I could change them more than monthly. Round glass table in dining room. Always has place mats.

I have console table that pulls out to a dining table that seats 10 (or 12) I'll use random placemats over a tablecloth.

We eat in front of the tv. I know bad.....

I don't serve daily meals. When it's just me, I eat off a vinyl place mat at the breakfast bar. When eating at the table, I usually use nicer cloth place mats but will occasionally use a table cloth for a special occasion. Since the table has a marble top, there are times I don't use anything.

I have a few cloth placemats, and used them until we had little ones at the table. Now I'm just used to sturdy plastic mats. I always use seasonal ones.

A few years ago I was on a hunt for spring and summer. I found some nice patterns at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I had to go to two stores to get all of them, but I managed.

DH and I usually eat in the sunroom. I like to use runners on my rectangular table, but DH tends to use one end for magazines and "stuff." I wish he would stop!

I love tablecloths. Always have one on my kitchen table and cloth placemats. However, with a year old kitten they often slide off the table. They think it's funny.

In the cooler months we eat dinner in the family room, while watching the news. Summer is on the porch, sometimes at a small table other times we just sit in the chairs. We only use the table for more formal meals that are few and far between.

Our house built in the early 70's has defined rooms, ugh...the living room is hardly used and the dining room is the same. Nice furniture in those rooms but a waste of space.

I would love a nice big island in the kitchen, for use as a desk as well as food prep and eating.

Cloth tablecloths everyday of the year. When we're ready to eat we use cloth placemats.

I would set a beautiful table with a huge collection of linens I have back in the day, but I did not work 40 years and retire to wash linens.

I use Chilworth place mats on our center island and kitchen table for every day. I'll use a couple of Lenox, Spode or Wedgwood dishes, plastic or glass glasses or some Waterford, Lenox or Ralph Lauren if it's out of the box.

I have a huge collection of china, crystal and silver from back in the day and traveling a lot in the South's vast antique stores. Nobdy wants most of it today and I am in the process of getting rid of a third to half of it.

Some I may just pitch because I don't think even the Salvation Army wants old Lenox china in quantity. I loved it and it is difficult to part with. The newest are the Wedgwood Oberon and India. I won't get rid of them!

Some people bought t-shirts on vacation and ate lunch every day out when they worked, but I bought tableware! LOL!!

My formal DR table has a runner on it. If we are using it for a holiday dinner, I put a tablecloth on it with a protective pad underneath.

My kitchen table has a tablecloth on it...always. I can't stand to use place mats.. I like the look, but they aren't practical.

I have a large tablecloth collection that includes many sizes to accommodate my tables with and without extension boards.

I do not use plastic tablecloths. Most are cotton, but I have some made from 100% silk I bought when I visited China. When I remove them from the dryer, I place them on a hanger and hang them up to stay wrinkle free.

We rarely eat a meal at the dining room table, because it is always loaded down with stuff.

The table is the drop off spot for everything, so I have a cloth pad over the wood, a tablecloth, and a plastic cover to protect it from damage. The table top would've been ruined years ago without multi layers of protection.

None of the above....in fact, I often don't even use a table. I eat with a plate in my hands from the sofa in front of my TV (works well for my family of me and my 4 cats).

Nothing. Placemats never look good after they're laundered so I only use tablecloths and or placemats on special occasions.

@Sooner I wonder if a wedding venue would be interested in your china? Doesn't hurt to find out.

I helped a jewelry store owner clean out his basement of excess items. Some of the china did to go a venue that held large receptions, parties, etc.. They liked the look of mis matched sets.
