A SIMPLE DINING ROOM REFRESH FOR SPRING

Designer Mary Ann Pickett of "Classic Casual Home" showed what she had done in hers, just to tweak it.

She decided her watchword for the spring refresh would be "texture".

My favorite thing that she did, is the replacement rattan lampshades from Ballard on chandelier-- she said the old paper shades had yellowed. Here's the new and improved look:

The wovens are so cute! I'd love to have those on mine.

She did work in 'texture' in other ways too. I like her nubbly runner, with the glossy green tray over it, and clear glass hurricanes.

Even her wall pictures have fresh landscapes, flowers and a bicycle-- instant spring. And the layering of small paintings on that shelf is a way of introducing texture too.

Pink flowers in a frosty vase on tray are the perfect touch.

She also got new pillows in living room for this spring.

Anybody care to share their latest spring touches around the house? Speaking of shades, I did swap out shades on my tall Valerie buffet lamps. All winter I had my "Parisian black" ones on, but yesterday I switched them out to the pale cream ones the lamps came with...

On a related theme, I found @SugarGlider 's post here about wishing for more classic decor, quite thought- provoking.

QVC does have some, scattered here and there. I love to browse when I get a chance.

Here are a few non-cutesy (at least I think so) things that I found on the Q, that are year round, but can whisper "spring"--

House No. 9's Etched Glass Vase. H230514 If you look at the video, it looks ten times better than the image-- looks vintage.

Temp-tations vaguely midcentury modern "Woodland" ceramics have sophisticated lines. These, in slate blue, they are calling canisters, but, I'd be just as likely to use them as decor-- they're cool, plus they hold stuff!

The line, "Bright Bazaar" has a darling wood tray, in olive, (H342813) that reminds me of the one Mary Ann Pickett used on her table in the first picture. It is so fresh-looking, with the scallops, a motif that I've always been drawn to:

It comes in lilac and another color, I think. Note the cute, modern candlestick holders they also make.

Lauren McBride does a versatile, textured neutral crock H262349. And if you lean more modern, she does a contemporary, hobnail type planter too.

My last QVC fave for spring is the only one I personally own, and have shown before. Safavieh makes these 22 inch linen-y ikat pillows in this taupe and blue, (H285400) and also in a ravishing saffron yellow in 18 inch. They really are a breath of fresh air, LOVE them. They are too pricey now, but good quality, with zippers and separate inserts. Luckily, they offer very similar ones, less expensive, in floral and vine designs, too.

Amazon is a surprisingly good browsing ground for classic decor all year round. I adore anything black and white for spring, so fresh, and reminiscent of the "spectator" look.

The Teresa's Collections line on Amazon has this darling black-and-white pair, "Black Ceramic Vase for Home Decor" which would be so pretty with pale or bright spring flowers--

Love the textured, tribal look. Tip: Teresa's Collections make all kinds of interesting, well-priced pottery, across many design styles.

Hope I didn't transpose any item #'s, like I usually do!

I could use 6 of those rattan shades. They're so much more visually interesting than the standard white shades, which do yellow.

The arrangement and variety of wall art is also interesting and unusual.

@Oznell I love the lamp shades and I am in the middle of a small makeover in my kitchen and living room. I am waiting on an order from Amazon for a floor lamp with a similar lamp shade, The one I ordered it sort of a boho farmhouse style which is what I am learning toward doing in my living room and kitchen. I like the whites and soft tan/brown colors together. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Oznell, this is very pretty especially the beautiful pink flowers in the frosted vase. Honorable mention to the white flowers in the pink vase. I would purchase them in a heartbeat (provided the price is right of course!)

I so appreciate your including some QVC options. I had been looking at the etched vase so thank you for highlighting it. I have never purchased anything from Temptations but had I seen those blue canisters a few months ago, I would have purchased them rather than what I bought. I've purchased a lot from Lauren McBride, I like her offerings.

I always enjoy looking at different types, styles of decor and there are many pretty ones in the pictures. I love all the art work and the items from the Q are appealing also. I prefer crystal chandeliers but if I had the one shown I would much prefer the woven lamp shades in the photo. It is fun to display different decor, old and new, mixed and that is what I do. I have so much now that I had to stop buying awhile ago. However, once in awhile I am tempted but remind myself that room is scarce!!!!!!

OP''s pillows are so pretty. Nearly every designer would find my spring touches tacky. My husband just commented he sees seven sets of bunny ears as he looks around our living/dining areas. Ha ha, he missed the two pencil thin bunnies sitting under the Easter egg tree!

@happilyretiredgirl , I envy you your makeover. Your lampshade should introduce the touch of boho you're after. Little dashes of rattan, wicker, etc., in a room to me are so relaxing, and say to me, "happy".

@DSD2 , clearly, you have great taste, especially since some of our "likes" overlap, ha.

@AuntG , I bet your bunnies are charming-- I share your obsession. Clever of you to sneak in some more by going pencil thin. I have a two older ones, but my newest (a few years old) is a bunny creamer from Corner Ruby which I have out now for Easter. Found a picture of him online:

He has pansies and lilies for spring.

That's a nice dining room makeover. The gallery wall doesn't do anything for me though. While I like most of the art individually, together it just doesn't gel for me. I'd also ditch the tray on the dining room table. I do love the woven mini lampshades.

Nice updates that can be changed out when the spirit moves you.

I love black accents against a white or pale background. I think it gives the room depth and interest.

My favorite part is the tablescape in the first picture with the glossy green tray. I love at least a touch of green in a home. You can't go wrong with green, so fresh and reminds you of nature.

Also, I've looked at that House No. 9 vase you mentioned a couple of times but didn't buy, it's pretty.

I agree that the black sunburst is a distraction. I also think there is still too much black in the grouping, even without the sunburst. The black seems harsh and too much since there are already touches of black with the chairs, etc. I do love the woven shades. I also like the ceiling fixture in the other room that is similar.
