Needing to buy some new drapes for the living room and wondering if you all get ones that go to the floor?

Im not really wanting that but if its the best type I will

I have floor to ceiling drapes on mine and don't think it would look good any other way. The type and size of your windows could also make a difference.

Mine usually go to the top of the heat run or to the bottom of the window sill, depends on the drape, the window and the season of the year.

@CherryHugs Mine go to the floor in every room. Not the big puddle at the bottom that was a trend yuk but maybe an inch or so from the floor. They are a little shorter than that in the kitchen family room at the slider.

If I had drapes the only ones I would buy is grommet top. I would use floor length in living room but in the bedrooms I think you can get away with using floor or window length. I would do this because I like more casual. I don't care for what I call the formal look. Do what you want. It's your house you live in it.

If I put some in my dining room they would have to be widow sill length since floor length would not work with chest I have sitting in front of windows.

I only have drapes in the master bedroom. They are blackout so we can sleep. I have cellular shades.

As for any " heat runs ", drapes that are close to the tops of them will have heat going up under the drape rather than into your room. Hot air rises so if your drapes are closed, the heat goes up inside the drape.

I think it depends on the room and the window. My dining room and living room had a topper along with a lace type curtain, to the bottom of the woodwork. In the master bedroom the curtains hang to the floor.

I have never been a fan of curtains - several of my windows have bottom up/top down blinds and a topper to cover the head rail and to soften the window.

My preference Is always top of window to the floor. I use various headings with an appropriate decorative rod depending on the room.

My latest for my casual family room have grommet headings and I really like the look.

@CherryHugs You should purchase the draperies that YOU want with the length YOU want. Please yourself with your decorating and others will be pleased.

Never decorate your home to make others happy. You are the one that needs to be pleased with your decor.

@CherryHugs I put curtains on all of my windows in a new house a few months ago. I didn't want them going down to the floor. For one, my dog has long hair & I didn't want that on my curtains/drapes. And the other reason is that IMO curtains that are not down to the floor can keep a lighter feel to a room and may even make a room feel bigger and not so formal.

Get what works for you. Depending on how formal the room is, if it is slightly casual, you can go to the bottom of the window sill.

If long is an issue, for what or whom are you giving your comfort for?

I think it depends on your overall decorating style. Look at pictures online to get some ideas.

@CherryHugs ................Why on earth would you get drapes you dont want for your home? Get what you like.

Why do you think drapes that go to the floor are the "best type"? Your home, your choice. You live with it everyday.

All of my furnace vents are on the floor under my windows. They are designed that way to avoid cold spots. But if you have curtains/drapes of any length on the windows then the heat will be captured by the curtains/drapes and it won't circulate out into the room. I use heater vent deflectors. That way the hot air is pushed out into the room rather than up the drapes.
