DEVOL KITCHENS

I always drool over the "artisan" kitchens that the

English company DeVOL has made their trademark. It started with 2 guys who restored antiques and built furniture.

Ultimately, they were able to obtain a 1000 year old water mill in Leicestershire, "Cotes Mill", and develop their "bespoke" kitchen business.

What a tranquil spot!

They have a London showroom, and even a New York one, on Bond Street. Here's a vignette from the Bond Street showroom. Love their corrugated sinks:

Possibly people who don't like kitchens that look "unfitted" (the British term for not built-in) wouldn't like these, but I think they're ravishing.

These photos are actual kitchens they've created around the world. This one is called Pearl's Bohemian Beach House kitchen; it's in Somerset.

I really enjoy the homey, improvised look of the kitchen (even though it is carefully planned, down to the last 1/8th of an inch, I imagine!)

In addition to big projects, they tackle small apartments and cottages, like this picturesque Fisherman's Cottage in St. Ives:

That veined sink, woo woo!

It's partly the natural light, coming in through those fab arched windows, that is so beguiling. The people who live in this former schoolhouse-turned-residence really had a lot to work with!

Well, clearly I could go on and on. These are so gorgeous, and so personal to the owners. You can see a lot more at the DeVOL online site, if desired.

Just a couple of random things they have that caught my eye--

Yummy brass sink. They also have aged copper sinks.

Such a cute stove and pot rack. I do love pot racks, which go in and out of "fashion". To me they are timeless. That stove is adorable, and that stout, honest black stovepipe going up makes me think of smoky but cozy 19th century cottages in peat-ey, rural Ireland...

These kitchens are fabulous! There is so much appeal throughout each photo. The veined and brass sinks, beautiful! There is a lot of space which I always like in a kitchen. I prefer a table and chairs rather than an island and I favor the kitchens with that setting. The windows are eye catching and different. All in all an interesting design collection of kitchens.

Interesting names for some of the paint colors listed on the deVOL website (under the Kitchens tab / Shaker Catalogue / Paint Colours): Lead, Refectory Red, Scullery Yellow.

I like the Shaker pegs, rails, shelves. The blue-cheese marble sink and the brass sink are beautiful.

Boy oh boy---those sinks!!!! I would build a kitchen around those sinks!!! I LOVE the farm sinks!!!!

I've always had an appreciation for kitchens that don't look like kitchens, especially these days with so many of them looking somewhat clinical. Each of these has some elements I like. Smitten with the color and cabinetry in the fisherman's cottage and, other than the chairs, with the Stoke Newington.

So very unique! I loved all of the big windows, the kitchen sinks, (esp the veined and copper) and all of their detail!

There's so much to drink in, I went through the pictures 3 times!

I would LOVE to be able to see this statement picture on the left wall!

Wow, I love the comments from the select "kitchen-discerning" posters here.

These eclectic kitchens with high furniture-quality cabinets and storage, and unique fixtures, aren't for everyone, but they are so soulful. I do also like the opposite end-- "sleek" kitchens-- as long as they are not sterile, but these individualistic ones take my heart.

A few years ago, our limited kitchen remodel was marred somewhat by botched cabinet painting. The painters, unbenownst to us, ignored the specialized instructions for using a particular cabinet paint. As a result, we discovered our cupboards to have chipped and worn in a way they never should have, sigh. So I really appreciate beautiful kitchens....

All beautiful and still functional. I love different and these kitchens are just that but not so different that they look like Staged Kitchens.

The corrugated sinks make the space but the practical me says the grooves would constantly need cleaning...then again if I had one of these kitchens I wouldn't be the one cleaning.

Yes, yes, yes. These kitchen designs are fabulous. So much fun to see. @Oznell Thank you for doing all the research for the rest of us to enjoy.

I am particularly fond of the ivory or cream colored cabinets.

I chose them for our limited kitchen remodel with pewter hardware and love the look. We have an older, traditional home and the stark white which is so popular now just looked too modern and out of place. Of course my kitchen doesn’t rival these but we are pleased with it.

@nevergivesup , you were so wise to go with a warmer off-white for your traditional kitchen-- so appropriate for an older house. The starker whites just aren't "mellow" enough for such a setting, in my opinion. Your kitchen sounds pretty!

Thank you so much. I was worried that the off white cabinets might have yellow or tanish undertones which I definitely didn’t want but I had a wonderful sales person who guided me through the process and assured me it would be ok. It can be scary when making expensive, permanent choices so I appreciated her help.
