A FEW VALENTINE TABLES

Designer Cindy Hattersley and a few of her colleagues each did their own take on a Valentine table:

Cindy's:

Love her two-tiered paisley-dominated table cloth. And the tulips! I think they look even better because she put them in a not-expected, rather "rugged" vase. Those goblets look like seeded glass maybe, love...

Her accessories and little touches are always interesting and usually vingtage-- like these old napkin rings and key. I like the simple sprig too, as a reminder of nature.

2) Her pal Mary Ann, from "Classic Casual Home", decided to do a Valentine dinner without Valentine colors, but with little accenting gold hearts cut out of old wrapping paper:

The back story on "Classic Casual Home" is that she has moved from her beautiful but more 'buttoned-up' San Francisco apartment, to this pretty Florida house. I love her dining room's fresh green walls and the way they work with the pastels on her Valentine table:

At twilight: Striped napkins, colored candles, blush colored flowers, and the only real Valentine reference, the little gold hearts scattered about. Pretty impressionistic painting on wall.

3) And the final one, from "Northern California Home". Her vibrant tablecloth is a "Liberty of London" fabric, and I think it just makes the table!

She already had the pink goblets, how appropriate.

She just fancied up some box-mix brownies with red and pink M & Ms. Yum.

She said she bought little potted primroses at a nursery, and re-planted them in glass vases for the table. They will be favors for guests to take home, and ultimately plant in their own gardens, if desired. Nice!

I think it's neat that the ladies mostly used what they already had, just supplementing or improvising when desired.

I don't have any specific Valentine's decor myself, but most years I do a tiny vignette for the first couple of weeks of February. On a side table, I just put a Royal Doulton lady in either pink or red, my tiny antique pink Toby jug, and my little broken porcelain heart:

Some years I put my other Royal Doulton lady, "Winsome", since she, luckily, has a red dress. Found her picture online too--

Couldn't find my exact miniature Toby Jug, but this little seated guy is similar-- just picture him with a deeper pink coat---

Then, I have a little Limoges white-and-gold porcelain heart box of my mother's. The top broke off years ago from the metal hinge; but I just turn it on its side so you see the heart shape.

Anyway, it sounds goofy, but I put one of the R.D. Ladies, the Toby Jug, and my Limoges heart together and hope that it looks Valentine-y.......

Will you do anything for Valentine's? To me it's one of those fun, no-fuss holidays that you can do something if you want to, or do nothing, and feel fine about it!

The table settings are lovely and inviting. I especially love the tablecloths as I also put table cloths on my dining room table.I would love that flowered table cloth!! The white vase is beautiful and filled with tulips or any flowers would enhance a table setting.

The Royal Doultan figurines are so pretty and your vignette, Oznell, sounds perfect for Valentine Day decor! I always enjoy decorating for certain holidays and with the exception of Fall and Christmas, I do put a little something out to celebrate. I have a few figurines on tables which are my Valentine offerings and some Luminara candles , pink and red which I display. I do have a few retro Valentine planters which I haven't put out yet. Decorating is fun and creative and lifts my spirits!!!

Enjoyed looking at those tables - most impressive. Not sure when we'll have our Valentine's Dinner, but all I'll set out are nice wine glasses and I'll burn a three wick candle.

Your table arrangement, @Oznell, sounds quite lovely and definitely unusual.

A while back, you mentioned your front Christmas door arrangement. Our front Christmas door arrangement easily transfers to a winter one. We have a large vertical “Welcome” sign on one side of the door. On the other side of the door we have an old child’s sled propped up, with a pair of old little girl’s white skates attached and hanging down. They were my daughter’s skates of long ago.

On our storm door, we hang a pair of old red wooden skis, crossed at the center. On top of that, we hang a wreath with bow for Cnristmas. Afterwards, we remove the bow and hang a good sized white snowman painted on wood on top of the greens. So easy, and it suits our colonial home. The old wooden skis belonged to my husband, now in his 80s, when he was a little boy.

Such nice photos! I like them all. While I don't decorate specifically for Valentines Day I appreciate that others do. I'm more of a seasonal decorator and right now I'm still in winter mode. I do a bit for Easter though, it's part of my Spring decor.

@spiderw, love the idea of retro Valentine planters.

Those heirloom skates and skis, @PamfromCT , are so meaningful to your family, and such a picturesque winter decorating touch to boot!

@AuntG, glad you mentioned candles-- they are a must on the most romantic holiday of all.

@Iwantcoffee, those are gorgeous tables-- she does great work. The copper and pink do make such a harmonious combo.

@LindaSal, you're right, Easter has to be acknowledged somehow here too. I don't have much for that-- some wooden eggs, a lamb salt and pepper set. I have a vintage bunny teapot and a bunny porcelain box, but they are year round. Bunnies are forever!

@Oznell These were fun to look at! My only decor for Valentine's Day are the flower DH get's me every year.

With that said there was "lots" to love in these pictures. My favorites were the Liberty Of London tablecloth, pink goblets, red figurine, and @Iwantcoffee

big brass bowl picture with flowers. I prefer the red, white, and pink look.

I love the combo of pink and red dishes/glassware--that color pink reminds me of the pink depression glass dishes I have stored away!! Am sad they are away in a storage unit!!
