WINTER, WINTER/SPRING

Not trying to rush anyone; after all winter is socking a lot of people hard right now-- just felt like pondering a handful of images.

Even though ice and snow are not my favorites, when we reach this point in winter, it's kind of nice. It's still winter, but the coming of spring-- sometime-- doesn't seem quite so unimaginable...

A few images that fit this time for me:

Ice breaking up on a lazy creek--

Fight, little flower!

Snowy woods, but blue skies, white clouds, low golden shafts of light.

Looking at Swedish photographer Peter Carlsson's work is what got me started on this! A lot of his Scandinavian images are sort of caught between winter and spring. But this is on the spring side, isn't it. Twiggy p u s s y willows above, white flowers below, pinecones and branches. He's talented.

Despite the florals, this gives me more of a modern 'winter' overtone, courtesy of the cozy rug and runner by Stark. It's called "Fauna" to convey the animal print, and it comes in lots of colors.

OK, faux cherry blossoms are definitely spring, but on a carpet of greens, that look to be evergreen? That, and the stacked birch logs give me a transitional-season feeling.

Blush-y colors, and branches... nice for that in-between season...

Always get such a lift from seeing the first snowdrops-- so waxy and delicate, and brave! They won't be here for awhile though...

Today I changed out my evergreen branches in a vase, for (real) bamboo shafts, interlaced with some eucalyptus and a few burgundy 'pod' stems. Just felt like moving on from the heavier, evergreen thing, for some reason.

(Am inconsistent though-- still have evergreen wreath on front door! It's lasted much longer than I expected, and hate to take it down.)

Have you made any changes, or tweaked any of your existing decor recently?

(Edited-- to fix "p u s s y willows" so that annoying computer would stop censoring it.)

And another edit-- I neglected to put in my final image, which to me, fits with this time of year-- Thomas Mostyn's "The Green Gown":

The green of her dress is so refreshing, with the soft lace, and the turquoise ornament in her bodice!

I'll be hibernating from April 1 to September 1. I'll come out of my den during the month of Christmas in July.

I have Valerie's 6 ft flocked short needle pine with white twinkle lights up for Winter. A big white polar bear vase loaded with fresh greens from my Douglas Fir trees.

I missed Christmas lights, so dead in the house, so I put some multi-color on a small 24 inch real twig tree and am watching all those Christmas movies I recorded that I couldn't get to watch before Christmas.

January and February are our coldest months. This year January has been a dud, one snow and fairly warm, so I am looking forward to February to bring lots of snow and cold.

I have faux wnter florals in the front hall and living and dining room. I bought some of Valerie's white sparkle picks and I have midnight blue florals mixed in. Once I took away my Christmas florals I just replaced them with winter looks and when winter passes, out come my spring/summer decor and florals. I enjoy my seasonal decorating although compared to Fall and Christmas, it is much less.

I love Fall and Winter and am not rushing the season. I do not look forward to the heat and humidity ever. I enjoy my four seasons although this Dec. and Jan. have not been frigid and no snow. Time passes fast enough without wishing it away.

The photos you posted, Oznell are lovely and I do love that "Fauna" rug and runner! I would like to see the other colors,, very appealing. Decorating whether gong all out or just putting out a few items always lifts my spirits.

Yes, I still have my wreath up on the Front door also!!! I consider it part of my winter look.

Ah, you are a hardy soul, @Foxxee ! Sounds like your house is still very twinkly and cheerful.

@Desert Lily, that rascal Phil. Doesn't he ALWAYS see another 6 weeks of winter? Just once, I'd like to hear that we get the shortened version...

@spiderw, white sparkle picks and midnight blue florals-- how pretty! The Stark rug "Fauna" comes in bone, almond, sand, stone gray, lapis and onyx.

This is the "bone" below. I think my favorite is the "almond" though, but I didn't see a good picture of it in a room...

I haven't changed much decor since putting the Christmas stuff away. I leave out my battery snowman candles, my red truck with bottle brush trees in the back as they are free of ornaments, just green. I also keep out my snowflake mantle scarf. The outside wreath is not overly Christmas, just a few pine cones, berries and a bit of flocking. So that will stay out until the end of February, then in March I will change over to spring!

I don't mind the seasons and try to enjoy and never rush my life away

Bring on Spring!! January didn't feel quite so long this year and normally it feels like a century has gone by. We had pretty mild temps and only one major snowfall that fizzled out from the predicted amount. I always look forward to the month of February. I know it can still have some brutal weather but, overall. I feel like winter is losing its grip and it's a short month and then we're into March!!!

Oznell, Thanks for the colors of the Fauna rug. It is striking. The Green Gown painting is exquisite, I would love to have it hanging in my living room!!!! I agree about how lovely the color green of her dress.

Can't disagree that tranquil is nice, but I must admit to liking whimsical decor (probably my inner child). Right now, there is a lighted twig tree in our living room with red and pink hearts on it.
