RENOVATED CONNECTICUT HOUSE

Renowned design team Steve and Brooke Giannetti worked their magic on this historic gem. They showed the before pictures, and while pretty, the house was previously much more fussy. Now it seems to "breathe".

What they call the "Family entrance", has a charming simplicity now. Look at that closet door--

They are so lucky to have an open gallery running around the top of their main sitting and entertaining room.

Something I really love about what they did-- they mixed a number of painted Swedish antiques in, like the pretty clock here, and the painted kitchen chairs. Vintage Scandinavian and very old American furniture seem so compatible.

Stunningly architectural Swedish settee. There were puffy balloon shades in the house previously, but now there are simple curtains that blend with the room colors. The clients wanted a neutral backdrop for the house, so it is painted in Farrow and Ball's "Wimborne White". But it is a mellow white, not the antiseptic color of recent decorating trends.

For such an imposing house, the kitchen is so down to earth-- charming. The house is a combination of earlier and later structures, and the kitchen is in the oldest, "Iron Monger's" space:

Dining room has touches of soft seafoam, in the linen covered chairs...

Seafoam is so striking in back of the corner cabinet.

Graceful roofline in a bedroom...

I love all the quirky aspects to the house. There's even an interior small-paned window, looking into the two-story library!

This attic "closet" is a wow! I'd have to spend a lot of time up here!

@ECBG, why do I think this house might be up your alley?

Interesting, fun to look at, lovely colors, otherwise a big no for me. I find the low ceilings and some of the house style not to my comfort zone.

Love it, especially the old beams and stone and the Swedish touches. I'd be happy to move into the attic!

Elegant yet soothingly comfortable.

The chandelier in the attic makes that space. I would be happy there, a perfect place for a brief respite when needed.

I don't know if there is anything I would change. I love everything especially the seafoam color in the cabinet - unexpected but stunning. It may be close to the front door color, I can't tell but again, just perfect.

The house is beautiful, love it. Can't say the same for the furnishings. It looks totally staged with no warmth. Not a home.

Guilty as charged my friend, lol!!

As you know, I taught Interior Design, wrote ID curriculum for years, and been in love with the 1800's styles since I was introduced to that period at age 14, it just seemed my "soul settled".

There was a period when a councilor told me she was sure I was a "throw back" to the primitive times. She wanted to hypnotize me, but I didn't do it.

Instinctively as a child, I embraced the antique pieces brought into our home and disliked the pieces of the time. There was a large upholstered wing back with Chippendale legs at a grand parents house, that I loved! The other grandparent had an upholstered, modified wingback with a skirt which I couldn't stand!

The main change I would make is to change this table to a standard coffee table height and use a smaller oval shape. The present table height closes up the space.

I would also use Louis XV and rough hewn French Provincial instead of Louis XVI which has too many sharp corners. Queen Anne could also be used.

This wonderful old house is just enthralling. Overall, I also like what they've done with the interior. There will always be things I'd change to better suit my own likes and dislikes, but it's lovely and is proof that neutrals can be done well using a more traditional vibe and in a more traditional setting. I like this one.

The house and the artchitectural elements, both inside and out, are not my personal favorite this this is still a beautiful home. I can't say the same for the neutral furnishings. I was underwhelmed and well....bored.

The house is very inviting to me. I love the old floorboards and just about everything. My only exception (once again) is the seafoam paint in the back of the beautiful cabinet. WHY??? Seems to cheapen it to me.

Love everything about this house except for the oversized tablecloth in the dining room. Reminds me of the sheets people put over furniture when they go away for an extended period of time. Not to mention tripping over that fabric and knocking everything off of the table.
