Yes!!! I played around and did some stupid things after a google search. One article said to fill large water bottles with water and add to the load and that would fool the washer into thinking the load weighed more and that more water was needed. HA! It did not work and the lids came off of the bottles within a minute or two. Don't try it.

I finally discovered that when I use the delicate cycle (even if it's for non-delicate items), it uses more water. The lighter the load (on delicate), the more water it uses. A load of 5 towels won't get as much water as a load containing 2 shirts, but it is definitely more water than I get when I use all of the other cycles (normal, etc.).

My washing machine (Whirlpool) is quite old. I get to select the size of the load (hand-washable up to ex-large, with many settings in between) and that determines how much water goes in. I can't imagine doing a load of linens, for example, in only 3" of water.

Mine has a glass see thru top, and a deep water load which is still not much water !! I know you are gonna laugh, but i have a water sink next to the washer, i got a short hose and attach to it. But I have to start washer, lift lid add water from hose, then close. I haven't figured out the rinse cycle cause it locks..... i guess i can just do a rinse cycle to add water. These new washers suck. There is no way to do towels and bedspreads with the water saver mode, even on deep water setting. i have stood and watched thru glass top and they do not add enough water.

I bought a new GE washer, used it 2 days and knew it was not for me, due to no full fill water option. The filling by sensor options are quite misleading.

I chose a Whirlpool commercial washer, no frills, exactly what you will find in a laundrymat. Basic wash cycles, water temp choices and a push button start; works great. Definitely a good choice for me and I would choose the same machine again in a heartbeat.

I had a large load Whirlpool for about 20 years that performed fabulously. When it conked out, I searched and searched, finally settling on a top loading Maytag with an agitator. Top load with agitator was harder to find.

It's a really nice looking machine compared to my old Whirlpool, but for function --- it's a trial to adequately wash my clothes. On any sensor presets, I will have some clothes come out of the wash with dry spots on them. They don't even get fully wet.

I spend lots of time with workarounds to get more water. Including soaking the clothes with a bucket of water to trick the sensors for a higher fill. Also, for 'bedding' setting, it has higher fill, so I use it most often. I also use Lysol laundry sanitizer often now, when I never felt a need for such with my old machine.

I get why suddenly we're being bombarded with adds for all the products for making our laundry smell good. It's to cover up the fact our clothes are not fully cleaned with these water saving machines. I long for the day I used to love to smell my freshly washed laundry. Not now.
