A Library to Love!

I have to say that I really like this one-- even the painting of a ship! Not sure the lighting would cut it for reading a book, though....

To me that's just a dark, dank, somber ugly room! A library has way more shelves and books, and is a light and comfy and enjoyable place to enjoy the happiness of a good book to read.

NOT my cup of tea and book!

I would like my library to be more airy and bright and cozy. This room is beautiful, but reminds me of a Law Library, more than a library just to sit and read and relax!

A library has never interested me, personally. I do like that it doesn't have floor to ceiling bookshelves on all four walls filled with books but there's still too many bookshelves for me (after awhile it becomes clutter in my eyes). I like a darker room such as this because I feel they're warmer and more welcoming. I would, however, add just a few things to slightly lighten the vibe of the room including a desk lamp, plants, family pictures and a soft cushy reading chair, etc. Those things might be included but we're only seeing the room from one view.

My DH would love this room. He loves all thing libraries, book, maps, etc. He even gets excited about those card catalogs!

This looks more like a reading room in a gentleman's club or maybe a college library than it does anything I'd choose for my home. Overall, the house seems possibly more ostentatious than elegant.

A library can be in a private home or in a public building. This looks more like a law library of old. Very British looking atmosphere.

It is very authentic.

I appreciate the beautiful wood work but it looks cavernous and is a bit gloomy in my eyes.

Yipes! Way too dark. And the rest of the house--an easy pass. Alpine, NJ is a very upscale community.

Dark and depressing looking. Wouldn't want to walk into this room everyday. I prefer light and airy. Where is the comfy place to sit and read in this library. I wouldn't actually call this room a library - not enough books to devote an entire room to.

This just doesn't look like a library to me. I would expect many more shelves of books. Holy cow, that kitchen and foyer!!! Beautiful!

@kindred cats - I am not a great, personal fan of the foyer, as it is too grand for my taste, but when the enormous scale/magnificent design of the home is considered, the foyer appears more "appropriate" for the particular space.

I do like the wine cellar, though.

The "library" is a little gloomy for me. I agree with those who think it looks more like an office.

If it were mine, I'd paint it a lighter color. (GASP!!)

I do like the architecture though. I love columns and coffered ceilings.
