AN ENGLISH HOUSE DRESSED FOR FALL

We're back to designer Sophie Paterson's house in Surrey, this time with her version of fall. She likes to suggest autumn pretty much just through florals, foliage, colors and texture.

She asked for help from her favorite florist, Celeste Rose. Celeste does the flowers for most of Sophie's designs, and is clearly very talented:

Oh, my gosh, that bountiful mantel! It was "foraged", that is, came from Celeste Rose's garden, other peoples' yards, or just in nature.

The simple but satisfyingly chunky front door wreath is made of locally found leaves and dried hydrangeas:

Back to Sophie's mantel. Here is how it looks normally, with her favorite blue-and-white pots:

And now: Basically, they said it's three containers, of dried hydrangea, "old man's beard", oak leaves, dock, bracken, trailing ivy. among others.

Sophie thinks that smaller spaces and those without mantels can just as effectively reflect the season, like with this small side bouquet of autumnal colored flowers-- and a sprig of rosemary. It's a lovely little punch of color. (I adore that lamp, by the way!)

She changes out her pillow covers and throws for all the yummy, sandy, tan colors:

Look at this sweet leafy detail on a plain linen pillow:

This is another, more "den"-like sitting room in the house, and its silvery, dove gray schemes are so warmed by this tawny bracken in a vase. It was found by the side of the road, and adds so much:

A lovely procession of pots of seasonal heather, other flowers, artichokes and herbs, and candles on the dining table. Sophie sewed the table cloth herself, and has folded and used it as a runner to "ground" the vignette. The runner is narrow, so her kids can eat at the table and nothing has to be moved!

Even with the artichokes, it has a light, unforced, "feathery" fall feeling for me...

English and Fall. Add those absolutely beautiful leaf-trim pillows, the spectacular white lamp, artichokes and hydrangea and I am totally knocked out.

While I am not a big fan of waterfall style tables or using cooler colors as an anchor, this is still a space that I would really enjoy being in!

You always pick up on outstanding details in any scene, @781Florist . Ditto to your approval of those items!

One thing-- the Brits tend to be much less pumpkin-centric than we are. I'm a bit more in their camp on that point-- but still, I must have at least a pumpkin or two. Or a gnarly gourd. A squirrel or an owl, too, please.

Pumpkins and wheat are important, I feel, in North American 'harvest' motifs, while they may not be traditional to other regions as significant symbols...

That's all I ask-- in addition to the foliage abundance!

Absolutely team pumpkin and gourd. I think a nice grouping of assorted size and colors

on a bed of foliage with some bittersweet snaking in is a great porch/stair decoration.

I have an armoire (alas, no mantel!) that I usually make some kind of seasonal decoration on the left end facing my living room. I am on the hunt for a realistic fall leaf garland that I can cannibalize into sprigs for use with curly willow and bittersweet and pumpkins/nuts etc.

The lamp and the dainty but beautiful flowers in #4 are eye catching. The bouquet in #5 is lovely. The pillows in #6 and #7 are beautiful.

The mantle seems overwhelmed. I do prefer freshly cut to dried flowers.but the wreath is nice.

I love the lighter colors and hues of spring and summer but I can appreciate all the care and attention that went into this.

@Oznell Those pictures are beautiful. I really like all the florals,

on the mantel, wreath and tables. Changing pillows for the season

is a nice touch. I'm not loving everything on the dining table runner. It seems a little busy. I would like the centerpiece with only the candles in candlesticks with just a little more weight.

Resonate with the fawn and white colors with the blue...so calm and luxe. The hydrangea wreath is lush and blends so beautifully with the door. Adore the mantel collection, but would probably select a couple of favorites rather than a group display. @Oznell Thanks for this inspiring fall decor.

This work is beautiful and lush but the colors aren't too strong. I love the bright wall colors in her back ground which would bounce the light on a cold day.

British homes all have that moody look which screams Autumn love. They transition so easily to Christmas and awaken the Spring but summers seem cooler in them than in my area. So much believe I was born to live in England.
