LIVING ROOM

Studio McGee showcased this living room as bringing in some of their newer fall tones and materials. To me it's not so much overtly "fall", but maybe quietly so, and is cozy.

Pretty rug with subdued colors, and I love the couch...

Like the checks, the woven vase, the imperfect whimsy of the beaded bowl-- unexpected.

Cozy plaids on the occasional chairs. Nice to see dark wood in a relatively modern room. Those unexpected arched doors are another graceful nod to tradition here...

Let's hone in on a few details--

Their yummy olive velvet couch makes me so nostalgic for the green velvet one I had, eons ago. But I like the sleek yet inviting-looking McGee couch even better... Shea McGee has said that she far prefers the single cusion seat on a couch-- she says it is more comfortable. I think I see that-- your thoughts? As long as it is reversible-- I like to reverse cushions to prolong wear.

The strong simplicity of the wood lamp, the texture of a leather box, the delicacy of a two-toned glass vase holding spiky florals....

Up close with the lamp. Nice iron touches with the wood:

Travertine coffee table brings in beautiful natural stone...

The cool tones of this comfy chair, artfully combined with the warm tones of the throw and pillow... I like the deeply scored, hefty indoor/outdoor side table which adds an organic feeling...

This art photography of a rocky cove on a wild coast, over the mantel, love. Establishes many of the colors of the room, no?

If I'm quibbling, I'd have the shelves a little less populated-- other than that, love. Feels like a "happy" room to me.

@Oznell - I like this room, and while it doesn't scream fall, it does convey the changing season. I would tweak a few accent pieces, but overall I would like spending time there. The one thing that stood out to me immediately, was the lack of window coverings. Maybe it is because of having lived in the city my whole life, but I need something on the windows.

As for the single seat cushion, I don't think I ever had a couch with a single one, always one that had two cushions that were reversible.

It's a beautiful room. I usually love their designs.

I would make 2 minor changes, the artwork above the fireplace and the lamp.

soft, subtle, subdued...a very comfortable environment. I love the bones...the windows inviting the outdoors in and the arched doorways.

I LOVE this room! Love it! The only thing I would change is the style of the sofa and I would get rid of the two ottomans. I agree about having separate seat cushions on the sofa, preferrably three. Also agree about a little less on the book shelves. Really love that room though! 👍👍

@stevieb Nothing in the room looks welcoming or says "sanctuary" to me. As is, it looks uncomfortable and dark and gloomy--but yes the room itself looks wonderful!

Oznell, you have such a discerning eye and excellent taste.

I love the curtainless windows. There is no such thing as too much light for me.

If I could have anything there, it would be that travertine coffee table. It is just beautiful.

I liked the couch which due to the color is definitely fall. The light blue chair seems more suited to summer so would have liked the chair done in a deeper blue which would have coordinated a bit better.

It's all in the details - the leather box and two tone vase were lovely.

I would declutter a bit. I should take my own advice as I would do well to do so too.

@Oznell This is a nice living room and I appreciate the fact that it's not over done (close but not quite ),

Overall, it is too subtle for my tastes. I love the sofa but not the color. Green is definitely not a favorite of mine. I'm also not fond of the plaid on the chairs although it's a softer plaid than a lot of them. I had a plaid sofa for years and was sooooo happy to get rid of it a few years ago. The buffalo check on the pillows is not really a print I care for either. The windows are gorgeous but I'd definitely want window treatments.

Oh Yes! The colors are serene, calm, and inviting.

You could easily change a few things decor wise for Christmas, Spring, and Summer to change the vibe of the room...Love it!

@stevieb Me too. The whole room, furnishings, are beyond drab. I don't think I could stand to sit in that space more than 5 minutes.

I like the room, but all the furnishings would have to go, including the pic and tree. Then I'd start over. Love the french doors, but all windows and doors would need coverings.

Beautiful accent pieces.

Love the color of the sofa and the plaid on the chairs, but not the sofa's style or the style of the chairs.

That lamp!! I love a wood lamp, and PLEASE tell me that those lampshades are coming back already! I am not a fan of the drum shades.

I like the picture over the mantel but not fond of the "leaning agains the wall" style of display. Same goes for mirrors and step-style shelving. Nope.

That coffee table is not something that I would normally choose, but I like it!

I could only live with the windows/doors beig completely uncovered if the house was in the middle of several wooded acres. Don't like living in a fishbowl! I like light, but would gently shirr some white sheers top to bottom.

Vases of thistle and allium....5 stars!

I like the room, but as @Sooner wrote, the furnishings are dark and gloomy. In my mind, I'm Imagining how beautiful it could be.

Single sofa cushions flip up on the ends when people sit on them and crawl around when they get up. And chairs with metal tubes for arms? Who wants to sit there. I would far rather be in an armless chair.
