One Unusual House

This is a house design that I have never seen before on my never ending real estate searches.

This is in the realtor's notes: "There's no place like Dome! This Buckminster Fuller designed home with its geodesic shape is certain to inspire creativity."

It's different The first thing that sprung to mind was quonset hut however the more I looked at it the more I saw the geodesic shape.

There was a big bank in Oklahoma City with a gold dome like this. I don't know if it is still there or not. They were fighting about whether to save it or not at one time.

Geodesic dome homes were very popular in the 1950s and 60s. You still see them occasionally.

More to add. Hubbs built it in the 80's. It is a 40 foot diameter dome. We have about 3600 square feet. Our stair cases are spiral just like these. In 2000 we put in an addition that is not a dome.

Hubbs now has his office in the third floor. After the addition there is now a bedroom on the main floor.

I applied for my first student loan from Valley National Bank branch in Tempe, Arizona. It has since been demolished. The golden geodesic dome was removed and now serves as a cover for a ramada at an ASU student housing complex.

A thank you @Mersha for your post which reminded me of this iconic place from my early life. BTW, the Plymouth in this photograph was at least a decade before my college student days!

(just had to add that bit)

A geodesic dome house would be so cool.

That ugly staircase would be dangerous for me, physically. I do like the blue furniture in the first photo, but that's about it.

It would be a nice house for a vacation rental but I wouldn't want it for my permanent home. However, the spiral staircase would be a dealbreaker for me even as a vacation rental.

Definitely not my style. I don't find the outside of this home very attractive. The wood floor inside looks nice, but I don't care for the furnishings.
