I use the Terro brand fruit fly traps. They are a cute little apple that you just sit on your counter near your fruit. I get them at Walmart.

They work great for me.

Poster's Terro probably is good too - I've only used that brand for ants.

On Amazon go forward about 3 or 4 times on that top row of how to catch FF. There's a triangle white plastic counter holder with 4 small holes....that's the one I've used to 30 years. Leave it near a bowl of fruit and soon they will be crawling around the holes.

The odor draws them in - they don't come out. Replace in 30 days.

I make sure to clean my disposal thoroughly...DH sometimes throw food into it but forgets to run it. It has been the source of fruit flies the few times I have had them in the kitchen. I use only vinegar when I set out a glass to trap the,...I found the dish soap and vinegar combo didn't work as well as vinegar alone.

A wine bottle with about 1-2 oz of wine in the bottom (the kind with the concave or convex depending on which way you are looking at it). Put a very small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid down the inside walls of the bottle. They will go in to get the wine (wine is strong fruit smell) and when they start back up, the Dawn either kills them or they can't climb out because it is sticky and they are drunk on wine. Flies go in but they never come out. Works for me. I have used that for many years.

I don't know about the soap but... I put a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in jar with a small chunk of fruit (banana, pineapple, berry). cover with plastic wrap, use a rubberband around the opening to hold it. Poke a few holes in the plastic wrap. the flies can crawl in but not out. works like a charm every time.
