Kitchen Remodel

We absolutely fell in love with the readily available weathered barn wood in Montana and decided to use it for our center islands.

They had such a spacious kitchen to work with! I like the switch-over in the remodel, from the 'ruddy' wood tones to a softer palette-- good move! I also always like understated tailored shades in a kitchen. Even though gray, silvery wood tones and whites are not my absolute faves in kitchens, I prefer them to the darker wood look. So the all-important light feeling is enhanced.

The beams they added look very good in context, and LOVE the wide-board, distressed floors.

Definitely an improvement over the original but I don't really love gray so the remodel would have to be a different color for me. And I don't really care for the drawers. Where is the stove now I wonder?

What a makeover! It's beautiful! Love that stove as well, and the flooring and all of the windows, which make an already big room look huge!

The remodel is fresher, brighter and updated, but I can't say I find it particularly appealing. Strikes me as sort of bland. Someone spent a great deal and probably got what they wanted, but this seems like sort of a missed opportunity for a WOW of a kitchen, given the wonderful space.

As much as I consider myself a minimalist at heart, I find this remodel to be a bit flat and unimaginative.

Two things I know would not make the cut in my kitchen remodel--the extension on the island with "early American" legs and the banquette in the corner.

But where oh where did that beautiful stove go?❤️

I love the remodel except for the floor--I would have done very large soft gray tiles (or even dark gray) and used traditional Persian style runners where you stand a lot.

It's funny. Several people commenting on how they love the stove, but I don't care for it at all. Way too overwhelming. Maybe if they're running a B&B or something.

I don't like the huge stove in the before either. I agree it overwhelms everything else.

I also dislike the barn type doors & the signs on the wall. There's too much wood of the same color. It all seems to blend together; needs some contrast.

The after is brighter, but I'm not a grey person. I prefer more color.

@Still Raining I don't like the island with table legs either.

The remodel is a huge improvement, but I don't love it. I do love the floors and the marble countertops. I never went with marble because you have to we willing to accept some staining, dinging, and finish issues. At the time I wasn't willing, but these days I think I would be because marble countertops are just so beautiful!

When I saw the first picture I thought THAT was the remodel! LOL! I love the warmth of it.

They're both beautiful kitchens. I'm just not a grey person.

My SIL did this. The brick Victorian farmhouse was built in 1860. DH's parents never did a whole lot from the previous upgrades, but his sister and late BIL did. I think this will be her last upgrade for a while. Everything is grey and black, and she has a huge island. She's a big fan of Joanna Gaines.

I really liked the upgrade before this (second one since they took over the house in 1994). They exposed the original brick from the outside of the house over one of the counters. She liked a primitive style then.

I love the remodel and the stove is FANTASTIC!

But...for some reason I want to get in that old kitchen and paint the cabinets and doors a pretty pale color, replace that dining table with a big reclaimed wood table and comfy chairs, add some green plants and see how it looks.

@beach-mom I also love to see exposed brick. I think exposed brick just does something for about any decorative style. Imo, it would have made this kitchen more beautiful or any kitchen for that matter!

I used to have primitive, too. It was very popular at one time here in Indiana. When we put in a vaulted wood ceiling... everything started to look too dark to me so now I'm kind of traditional/country with some vintage pieces.
