The Color Gold....Is It Really Back

While there are things I like about this room, I don't know if I could live with that wall color again. I had wall paper this color in the 70's to 80's. Either the gold on the floor would have to go or the gold on the wall. What do you think?

I especial!y dislike it with the gray. The two colors do nothing for each other. Not only could I not live in this room, I couldn't sit there more than 5 minutes. Awful.

That's gray? It's coming up blue on my screen. I don't mind the room and furnishings too much, but the gold walls and rug look out of place to me.

It is jarring to see some colors paired together, this being one instance. This color just screams no to the gold and vide versa. The color Bartlett pear and Blond were big colors in the late 1990s and then in the early 2000, the grays came in and we have been veering toward Russia for a while and it's time to pull back from these dreary colors and get back to some sunshine and lollipops.

Gold is seeing a revival especially in fixtures. Gold is a warm color and the decor should be with warm tones, not cool tones. This look is a miss for me since I do not like gray in homes.

@jubilant It's God awful. I hate that color for anything -- home decor, clothing, etc.

I'd ditch that gold area rug and do one wall with gold...as an accent wall-color and not the whole room.

I like gold, but would do a dilute with the paint so that it isn't so intense. I'd skip this rug. A little goes a long way.

I really dislike the color gold, but it's not in my "pallete'. I never liked it or orange for that matter.

I remember "Harvest Gold" in the 1960's. Horrors!

I think 14K gold will always be a standard for jewelry from a money standpoint.

The Blond that was so popular back in the 1990s-2000 era was beautiful. I think every decorator had in their homes unless they had Dry Sage. Tone down the gold, go toward a softer mustard and do a rug with 'some" gold in it, but not gold overload. I really HATE the gray color.

Meant to mention, while the fireplace is impressive, regardless of the colors, overall, I'm not a big fan of this room. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't want to copy it.

I don't like the room and cannot abide that fireplace or gray color. It makes me have heebie jeebies. It looks like a faux marble.

@Sooneret al, when I built my house I chose what I thought were great colours. I walked into it while under construction and painters had started. The colour for the main area was called historic tan. OMG I nearly fainted. It was the ugliest colour...like dark mustard yellow. I pulled my DH into a side room and we agreed on the spot to change the colour. We used the bedroom colours instead and I loved that choice. I can tell you, that was an swful feeling.

This photo reminds me of that bad colour choice.

I also will be so happy when grey goes out of style. Not a fan. LM

I changed from gold to gray a couple or three years ago and love it.

It's true that warmer colors have made their way back and are going strong, @jubilant . But in this picture, I don't know, to me the walls are an unfortunate shade of gold-- too brassy and aggressive, I think. And then they repeated the error with that rug.

It also doesn't harmonize in any way with the cooler colors.

It's a good room, and I keep thinking there are so many OTHER, preferable warm shades that could give it vitality...

I actually don't mind the paint color and the rug but I don't care for this furniture with it. I would go for softer muted (dare I say "more neutral") colored furniture with a few prints in pillows and accessories to incorporate the gold color.

Decorator needs to take a refresher course: the colors are not harmonious.

There is something strange about the rug: looks as though it is made of strips of wood joined together.

Whoever has to open / close the shutters needs to move furniture or the lamp to get to them and to return from them.

I think I would use that shade of gold extremely sparingly. Although I don't really care for the color (or the room in general), I like the use of both warm and cool tones. They balance the room.
