Do you agree? I love these chairs. My grandmother had a pair of chairs like these and I always found them to be comfortable and stylish in almost any decor.

I don't find anything rustic in this room. I think this looks rather ho-hum. Wing chairs - when done right, I like them too. My parents had thwo matching and a third one in the living rm when I was very little. Wish I could have kept them myself. I also wish I had the curved 3-piece sectional they had too.

I see this one as more "refined rustic". It may be because I have a wood vaulted ceiling in a very big great room and it definitely presents a challenge when going for that look.

I don't find anything in this room rustic.

It reminds me of how many of the victorian homes in my hometown were decorated.

Just can't get around the ceiling--is way too dark--maybe painted partially or white washed, or stained ---and they are a hefty part of the decor---

and are kind of an orange color---that I hate!!

I wish we could see more @jubilant It's hard to label the look with such a tiny snippet. I like simple, so I do like what I see. I would make a few tweaks and changes to suit my own taste.

I find the ceiling the best part. But then again I'm so over white everything except walls. I don't like white furniture, cabinets, window treatments. I'm more into leather furniture, wood and tile floors, shutters, no carpeting.

Are they "for real" with this room? More like a photo shoot layout than a real-life room.

White fireplace and white furniture so close to the fireplace? The chair on the left too close to the door.

What's with the mirror behind the chair on the right?

The first picture doesn't read as rustic at all to me. Because of the ceiling, the second is a bit more of a refined rustic look.

@manny2 I prefer whole rooms, too, or as big as I can get. This is a set up by Modsy. I couldn't find it in a big room so I presume it is a model set-up. I think it's very pretty but doubt I would call it "refined rustic".....but...... someone else might.

@jubilant I think you're right. Picture 1 appears to be a vignette created, almost as a portion of a 'model room'. I suspect it isn't even part of a real room but was put together to demonstrate something or for marketing purposes.

@jubilant thank you, I thought so. The first I agree not rustic. That is probably why I like it. The second one with the dark wood ceiling and choice of dark wood furniture speaks more rustic to me.

I agree that the first room I'm not finding the rustic. I love the second living room and although there are some beautiful pieces, they're too "refined" for me.

Queen Anne wing chairs with gold accents would not even be rustic in a log cabin.

Interior designers who come up with these descriptive terms to sell their ideas should invest in dictionaries or a thesaurus. Or, as anyone under 40 would say.......WHAT???

@wagirl Not only is the ceiling too dark, I HATE boxy ceilings like this. Talk about cobwebs!!!!!!! Now I'd HAVE to dust my ceiling!!!! I do not think so! I already hate to dust, not doing a ceiling like this.
