Stick vacuum recommendations?

I recently moved and gave away our vacuum cleaner, which I hated (Shark Liftaway). My new house is one story and only the 2 bedrooms have carpet. The rest of the house is luxury vinyl plank.

I was thinking of getting a stick vacuum this time around. I live alone, no pets so it's not really a big job to keep everything clean.

Do I need a corded vacuum or is cordless and rechargeable ok? I like the idea of no cord. I am not interested at all in a Roomba type thing.

Any recommendations? It doesn't need to be from QVC. I don't care where I buy it.

Just consider that eventually a rechargeable battery will wear out and no longer charge whereas a corded vacuum may go on for years.

I don't have any recs for you. But you're the first person I've come across who hates their Shark Lift-Away. Just curious...which model was it?

@SilleeMee - I think it was a Shark Navigator Lift Away. It swiveled and was "tippy" and I hated it.

Thanks for answering me. I'm still surprised though. It's just that most people here rave about their Sharks and so I was just asking.

I have a shark cordless that I use only upstaris where not much traffic or use and it does a great job over my carpet and tile floor in the bathrooms.

No recommendations but I can tell you which one that I would not recommend. The Dyson Omni Glide Hard Floor cordless Vac. I have made it work for me, but I would not repurchase.

My home has Carpet in three bedrooms and everywhere else including the bathrooms and kitchen I have the luxury vinyl planks. I installed this back in 2020.

If you are a person that likes to clean all at once which is what I like this stick vacuum will not work. It just will not last and if you push the high speed button then the time is even reduced more. I would say perhaps on a full charge it lasts 15 minutes. I have to basically touch different areas every day to keep my floors dust free.

The bin that is used to pick up all of the dust and believe me it will pick up is about the size of a kids sippy cup. It's so tiny. Then when you go to empty the bin it does not dump completely so I end up sticking my hands in it to make sure everything is cleared out.

It has attachments and you are supposed to be able to break it down and clean out your car like a dust buster type of contraption. In my opinion it does not have great suction when used in this manner, so the advertised plus is a negative in my book.

Do I prefer it over having nothing at all except my Duster for the floors absolutely. Would I pay that much money again for this machine the answer is definitely NO.

I only have tile and wood floors, no carpet but we got a Shark corded stick vac at Costco last year. Does the job.

@gidgetgh I have a DYSON stick recharable...I really like it. I bought i from QVC years ago, still using the same battery.

You only have 2 rooms with carpet so it might work for you.

My house is all carpet except for the dining room, two bathrooms and the entry area. I have a lowpile indoor/outdoor carpet in my laundry and on the enclosed back porch..that is where the stick is mostly used. I would not consider it good enough for whole house cleaning.

I also have a SHARK vacuum. I dislike it, it is tippy and very light weight. It's always falling when I am trying to do something with the attachments...never again.

I had a DYSON vacuum (ball style) and really liked it. Husband for some reason thought we needed a new one because the Dyson was making an odd noise when I would shut it off. The Dyson went to our office and the Shark stayed at home. It does not have the pick up/suction that the Dyson had.

Our Hoover stick vacuum is corded. It is good for quick pickups, but I would not suggest it for a main vacuum. We use it instead of a broom on our wooden floors. The Dyson is our time to clean the whole house vacuum which is about one-third wooden floors and two-thirds carpet.

@gidgetgh; I really like my Miele cordless stick vac.

I have 2 other Miele vacs: a 21 year old upright and a canister. They cost a bit more up front but last and work well. The Miele stick vac can be configured 3 different ways, including use as a hand held. I found the best price was ordering through Bed Bath & Beyond, using the 20% off coupon with free shipping. It was the only way I found to get a Miele at any kind of discount.

Miele cordless is the way to go! I read some reviews and definitely want one. For the amount of carpet you have, you'll love it.

I have and love my Shark Navigator for deep deep dcleaning. for more frequent use, I LOVE my Bissell Air Ram (HSN). cordless, and rakes the carpet nicely. easy to empty. charge lasts about 45 minutes, plenty of time to whip thru my home.

beward of stick versions with the motor and/or collector up at the top of the stick handle: I found these hard on my wrists with all that weight at the top of the stick.

I love Shark products and some of the Bissell options. Bissell donates part of their sales to animal welfare which I also like.

I own for several years now the Shark Rocket with cord. What I love about it is great suction, you can break down to suit your needs for baseboards or the tops of blinds or curtains. Also works as a full length vacuum and it came with a few tools. Plus lightweight.

I'm not sure you will be happy with the battery life on any cordless vacuum. I have a Hoover Linx that I use for quick kitchen and laundry room pick-ups, but one charge wouldn't last for a whole house nor would it do a great job on carpet.

I have a Shark similar to the one @Katcat1 posted and that's what I use most often. It has a long cord so I can vacuum a large area without repositiioning the plug very often. Most of the weight, though, is at the top, so if you have arm weakness, it may not be the best choice for you. Also, it doesn't stand up on its own.

I also have a Shark Navigator Liftaway and agree with you that it is not balanced very well and tends to fall over. I use it to avoid carrying a vacuum up and down stairs, but I wouldn't buy another one.

We have a cordless stick Dyson that we use on the word floors several times a day to keep up with the shedding dogs we have - works well. We don't use it on carpets though.

I purchased a Dyson V11 stick vacuum from QVC last June. It worked great until the brush head stopped spinning in January. It has a 2 yr warranty & I am awaiting the replacement part, but it will probably be another month before I receive it. Would not purchase another Dyson, this one was $500. Next time I would purchase a Shark.

Thanks everyone. I ended up buying a Shark cordless stick vacuum at Target. I bought I because it was purple and I liked the color. Seriously. They all looked the same to me so I bought it because of the color.

It won't get used heavily at all so it will be fine. I already have a handheld Black and Decker that I love and use if I see something on the floor and I have a woman who cleans my house every two weeks so this purchase was mostly a "just in case" purchase.

Sadly, Im finding that many of the Shark models even corded ones just dont last long.....I google "consumer reviews" and put in the generic product name (example:cordless stick vacuums) ----this is where I start any product search ....That's how I found my Eureka corded lightweight (10lb) vacuum....Ive been pleased with it.....good suction.....Some of the cordless ones even weighed more than the Eureka (12 lbs vs 10 lbs).....
