Festive Foyer...

Yea, I know, no red... Still, nicely done... Here's the thing, though, you see a lot of trees set up in foyers and I have to wonder why. Sure, it's a great look, but unless there's a main 'family' tree elsewhere, who wants to sit around in the foyer on Christmas Day opening presents... Foyer trees can look nice and don't require wrapped packages to look finished, but if there are wrapped packages, the foyer tree might be a good place for gifts that are leaving the house...

I had to laugh because that is what we did at the last house we lived in. Tree in the foyer but we could see from the living room, garland up the staircase!

But I had more stuff on the garland, and big bows with streamers at each end. And people could see the tree from the street, so it was part. of the outdoor decoration too!

I like it, minus the gold. I am a silver gal all the way! I use very little red at my house, @stevieb , my main color is blue. A very long time ago on some now defunct HGTV designer show, some designer said to use ONE main color throughour your seasonal designs, so I try to follow that rule for the holidays, seasonal etc.

But I also used to decorate for every freakin holiday...now I only do Autumn and Christmas.

I love this look and style and don't use any red when decorating for Christmas so keep the photos coming!

Even though I miss a bit of red, I think it's pretty and elegant. I agree with your comments about a tree in the foyer. I guess if you have room, it's a nice place to put a tree. I agree a foyer tree might be a good place for presents you're taking somewhere else.

I like it except when people put fake presents under a tree or those with wrapping paper that exactly matches the tree. Too much!! Just not my style.

@stevieb it's nicely done, but I admit I do miss the red. Thst being said, how lovely and charming to be greeted by that tree as a guest in that home.

I love it. I am not a fan of red so a Red Red Christmas is not for me.

I would remove the gold bow on the wreath ..no bow necessary for me.

Garland next to tree next to wreath -- too much stuff in too small a space. I think ribbon wrapped around the banister would look less clunky and allow the warm wood to show through.

It's pretty, but not enough red . If I had a home big enough to have a huge foyer to accommodate a tree, I would certainly do it. However, that is not where I would want to be opening presents and would have another in a living or family room.

I do like the addition of wrapped (maybe empty) packages, though, under the foyer tree.

I live in a split foyer, as does some of you.

I used to put garland, lights and red velvet poinsettias in it.

I really decorated my house. The tree (live, cut down by us) was in the downstairs rec room.

I have 3 daughters. There was always a 'theme' for each girl. Their presents were always on each side of the tree....with the middle for the youngest.

I'd really make sure the theme for each girl was totally carried out. Everything was wrapped. I even made sure the wrapping paper was colorful and mixed up. This made the pictures look good.

I remember one year my daughter (middle) was obsessed with the Hallmark stores. Sounds weird but she'd play like she owned a Hallmark store.

Santa brought her a real cash register with fake money. She had her own real name plate that said "Mary Martin, Manager". She had cards with her name, etc. it was just like a real store.

The younger one wanted a puppy. We had cats and I didn't want a live puppy. At the time Pound Puppies were everywhere. I had one of their dog houses with a stuffed dog, collar and all with name of it (Scruffy).

There was other dog related stuff.

Theoldest was fascinated with France. We found a large painting of a French street scene. At the time she was speaking French; so we bought her magazines all in French.

OMG! I laugh when I think of this ugly, horrible oil painting. I think we paid maybe $25 for it. If you look closely the light pole is in the street. The artist didn't have a thimble of talent. To this day shehas that ugly painting hanging in her house!

I haven't thought about this stuff in a long time.

We got together for my birthday last Saturday. We were going down memory lane remembering all this.

I know some of you widows will agree when you start remembering when your husband was alive and you were a whole family, you feel so sad that your husband isn't thereto reminisce.

Just sitting here there are tears running down my cheeks. He was my life soul partner. Sometimes the sadness (especially this time of year) is wrenching.

If you got to the end of this, I apologize for droning on and on. I think I just needed to get it'out'...I know many of you understand.

On one hand memories are wonderful and comforting. But on the other hand ....well...you get it.

I think of all of you as my friends and for some reason....I felt like remembering.

Would have edited by not adding the garland on the stair case or the wreath .

I would have hung some unique gold ornaments from the stir case or lights up the steps. The wreath is lovely but to close to the tree . For me a Nativity scene would have been nice nest to the tree .

@stevieb valid point about sitting in the foyer to open presents. With a 7x9 one, I don't think we'd be comfortable. Someone would have to move over when the front door opened! Still, it is a nice look for a large home.

My tree is almost identical to the one pictured. I toyed with the idea of putting in in the foyer this year, but ultimately it ended up back in the front of the window. I too disliked the idea of opening presents in the foyer.

Very tonal. Lovely.

One year, our tree was put in the foyer in front of the windows when I was a child, and worse, it was an aluminum tree!

I didn't feel like it was Chrismas.
