My friends used the U-Haul version and were very happy with the experience when they moved from southern California to Chicago. Because they were in a rental house for a year, they had U-Haul store some of the containers for a time. I don't know the total cost, but they said it was much less than conventional movers.

We used them about 4 years ago when we moved around 300 miles. I was pleased. They recommended packer and loaders. We did all of the packing but had loaders to load the pods. When I called to arrange for the pods, I was given the cost based on the house that we were moving from. They asked if we had certain heavy items like a pool table, piano and front loading washing machine, we didn't. Because our house was listed on Zillow at the time, the Pods employee was able to see all the rooms and how much stuff we had to move. They delivered the pods on the day promised and picked them up on the day that they promised. They stored our pods for 2 weeks until we closed on our new house. Then they delivered the pods to us. When you get the pods they tell you to purchase locks. You lock the pods after they are loaded and you keep the key.

I don't remember the cost. It is not cheap but definitely less than traditional movers. For us the move went smoothly and I would recommend Pods.

Okay Mickey thanks for the dialogue, it's just me and my husband, we have no one that can help us. Luckily er only have 2 heavy items, a tall safe and a huge tv cabinet. Everything else is not too heavy. Well no that's not true, I forgot the big couch with a sleeper inside it...

Yes. I used a POD and my buyers, who moved within our same town, used 2 of them.

First, I boxed up all out of season and extra HH items and had the boxes moved to my garage by a local crew of clean-up guys who came to take away some large furniture items prior to listing my house. As I got closer to moving day I hired someone to move the boxes and more from my garage the short distance out to the POD in the driveway. The POD was picked up just prior to moving day, when one small-ish truck and movers were hired to take away the remaining large items: bed, DR table, etc. I also sold whatever I was not taking as I was downsizing.

PODS was helpful in being flexible with delivery and pickup dates as my closing date for move in kept changing. I moved at a busy time of year for them- end of summer/ Labor Day.

PODS and U-Haul can also arrange movers to load and unload the POD for you.

Considering the cost of moving I think for me the combination of POD & movers was good. You want to keep the POD for as short a time as possible to minimize the cost.

Yes, I've used them and had a very positive experience with them. I was moving to another nearby town and had quite a bit of furniture to store. The PODS people have this down to a science. They were able to assess my needs and recommended the perfect size POD to store my items. The whole process couldn't have been easier. I would definitely use them again.

I used a UHaul container and was 100% satisfied.
My belongings went from central Phoenix to Baltimore right on scheduled as planned a year ago.
You just need a pad lock.
UHaul dropped it off on the date I asked for and it arrived on the exact date that I chose.
I hired a local guy to load it. I hired locals in Baltimore to unload it.
I will use them again.
