A DIFFERENT SORT OF SEASIDE HOUSE

Veranda Magazine captioned their story "Mediterranean Glamour and 1920's Romance...", and I think that covers it. This Sea Island, Georgia "escape" was designed by Sara Gilbane for a family of six.

Love the details-- the intricately inlaid side table, the sprightly curtains, the green velvet scoop occasional chair...

Graceful arches give inviting views of kitchen and hearth.

This butler's pantry has the feeling of a little jewel box.

I have such a weakness for pecky cypress walls, here in the library. Great textures going, including the geometric tile of fireplace, paired with herringbone design of interior.

That thick, all-limestone sink in powder room looks so tactile-- I'd love to run my hands along it. The playful, tented-design wall is not wallpaper-- it's painted.

Stunning beams, deftly coordinated fabrics, lacy iron work.

More beautiful wood on the patio. They call it "the loggia"-- I guess because it has a roof?

Mediterranean is not among my all time favorite styles, although the old Spanish Revival houses in California make me drool.

Still, this caught my fancy, for the unexpectedness in a Georgia coastal island house. It is indeed romantic, with its lacy 1920's touches, refined finishes and sense of quiet luxury.... I'll take a weekend there, thank you very much!

You chose an interesting, visually intricate option for our eyes this morning, @Oznell !

I'll need more caffeine to really be able to zone in on more of the details.

I am a great fan of fringe (not overdone, but as a feature). I know it's not to everyone's taste but I just love it.

That reminds me, years ago I bought a cardigan with fringe that I still haven't worn. I'll have to find it now.

I'm also a fan of wood on which you can see grain and texture, and their wonderful pecky cypress is a great example.

The only thing I don't really like is heads of any kind (human or animal) or skulls used as decor.

How much fun would it be to take a field trip, led by Oznell, to visit and tour all the homes she finds for us. I can see it now, each of us wearing our headphones, listening to Oznell's voice recorded and describing each of a home's features. Oznell, do you need a career change, by any chance?

I almost forgot, at night when we retire to our hotel during one of these multi-day tours, Oznell will have chosen a classic movie (preferably a noir) that she recommends for viewing connected with the theme or personality of one or more of the homes.

For many years I subscribed and then I stopped, but occasionally picked up Veranda at the grocery or drug store. Sadly, it's all but disappeared from my usual haunts, which granted, are not so extensive these days. I can't say I much like this home, as the more 'Med' style architecture has never been among my favorites. I'm also not really enjoying most of the interiors but must say, it's clearly well appointed and quite luxe.

The house on the outside is nice but the inside decor is horrible. However, the two big clay pots outside need to go.

I would never guess this home was in Georgia. My guess would be Miami or Bahamas.

My favorite rooms are the Powder Room and the Loggia.

Hey, thanks for that kind vote of confidence, @GingerPeach -- you paint quite a fun picture, and what could be more enjoyable than a decorating-and-film extravaganza such as you envision....

@DREAMON, oh, yes, you're right. I could see this in Miami as well, one of those great, "old-school" Palm Beach-style dwellings from the Twenties!
