@jubilant My computer skills are really lacking when to comes to posting pictures, but I wanted to share an idea I saw on a Hallmark movie. A long strand of lights was used to form a Christmas tree on a wall. Start at the top and just zig zag down toward the floor getting wider and wider with each row until a tree is formed.

Haven't put up a tree for 12 years. No decorations at all except wreath on front door. I don't miss it either.

I remember that Christmas movie!

It was a pretty cheerful idea of the Christmas tree on the wall.

She didn't have much money at all and wanted to make a good christmas for her kids

I also no longer put up any kind of tree, too much work, not to mention you have to have a place to store all that stuff.

But I do like the cards on the wall, it's cute, but I would never do it myself.

I didn't put up the tree last year, because we had just gotten a new puppy, and I didn't know how he would react. At least I had that as an excuse. I don't have that excuse this year. Our puppy is very well behaved.

Since our first grandchild was born in 2013, we have travelled to be with the young family at Christmas. We stay for several days. It is a delightful time. So, back home, at our house, NO Christmas tree. Actually, I'm okay with that. Put it up, take it down...store everything, do the cleanup...we don't have to do that now. We do not entertain, so it's not like we need to show off a tree or decorations. Less fuss. Less muss. More time for grandkids at their house. It works for us.

@On It Yes, I remember that movie well! I forgot the name of it so I looked it up.. "A Christmas Wish"... one of my favorite Hallmark movies.

Did you know that John Muir, the naturalist, refused to cut down a live tree and instead used a branch of a bay laurel as the focus of his family Christmas decor?

Of course, that was before artificial trees and before tree farms, WAY before.

I always did think that was a great idea. We all know he wasn't perfect, but that idea saved some trees.

Images on Google show a branch upright like a tree would be but the time I visited the historical home, the branch was draped horizontally along a wall.

Alternatives are work too, they just don't magically appear. I enjoy having a tree, yes it's work but I do lots of work for others so I'm always going to do the same for myself.

We will probably put up a tree this year, even though we will be in the midst of a kitchen remodel. We cut down on the work a few years ago with a slim pre-lit tree. We add about 20 ornaments from our travels, and call it Christmas!

@GingerPeach I went to his historic site. Interesting read. I will go back and read more. There is a tree at his historic home like he might have used. Thanks for the post. It was interesting.
