I am letting go of old perfumes!

I have a hoard of these () in a big box that I keep moving around. Some are from the 80's. I am tired of seeing them, would never wear them, and l am resolving that out they go. Do you have relics from those years at your house?

I would never wear them because they are very loud and I don't want to risk breaking them or the donation center breaking them because it would be a mess.

So help me bid farewell and wave goodbye to the 80's and 90's!

Hurrah ... Good Job ... I gave up wearing perfume when we had a friend

that wore a scent ... so heavy .. so strong .. and too much of it . it actually

made me sick to my stomach ... therefore I am afraid of doing that to

other people ....

I wore a lot of perfume in the 80's and 90's too. One of them was Cinnabar by Estee Lauder which I thought was strong.

Now these scents bother me and I detest anything scented, especially laundry detergent.

I have read that perfume can contain up to four thousand chemicals, so I'm glad that I don't wear it anymore.

No, but I do have quite the stash of Philosophy fragrances that I've grown tired of. They all seem to smell the same to me anymore. Pure Grace is still reliable.

I wouldn't mind a nice new bottle of no5 or some Cristalle, but it's more than I want to invest.

Guess I'll just use up what I have, but I find my interest in fragrance has changed. If I could find a good musk or patchouli, I might buy.

@Sooner you've no doubt got a treasure. Cologne, Parfumes and Eau du Toilette. Now you get chemicals they call "fragrances".

I had a nice collection in my going to the club days. They were a joy to own, display and wear.

When I was little my Gram had a mirrored tray with beautiful bottles, atomizers, decanters displayed on her bureau.

@Sooner If any of your old bottles have a removeable stopper or cap, have some fun. Smell each fragrance, keep the ones you like. Use an empty perfume bottle and mix the ones you like in that bottle. You will have a new scent that no one can copy. (The science behind perfume comes from trying to achieve a specific fragrance. Mixing 3 or 4 and giving them a good swish is just plain fun.)

If you have a deer problem, strong scents like this are perfect to use as deterrent for their favorite spots.

@RedTop Thanks, good to know . The deer are eating everything in my yard , porch and have been chomping on plants in my vegetable garden .

I have some 1 or 2 old bottles .

@skatting44 I have been told that human hair repels deer. An acquaintance told me to get some from my hairdresser when they sweep the floor and sprinkle it around the perimeter of the area.

@RedTop No deer, but maybe if it added some to the water in my squirt gun the rabbits would object to it and go elsewhere!

I had amassed quite the collection over the years but had to dispose of my toiletries after our house fire in 2019. I'd always preferred the "Oriental" fragrances like Shalimar, Tabu, Casmir.

But I recognized that others did not share my enthusiasm so I'd pretty much stopped wearing the heavier fragrances in mixed company. I adopted pure grace and had stocked quite a bit of it. It all had to be pitched.

I never replaced any of them. In fact, I've switched to mostly unscented or barely scented products. I have one body wash that smells citrusy, but that's it.

I never envisioned this for myself and once thought that people who had issues with fragrance were odd, but I started to understand the sensitivity to fragrances because some of the products out there are just so heavily scented. And not in a good way.

I thought I would miss fragrances but I'm managing without them.

Good for you for doing this! I have one older fragrance that I will never part with, Chanel No. 5. That black bottle still sits on my vanity. I haven't worn it in years. But my brother gave it to me for Christmas the year before he died. It doesn't smell bad either.

At one time I wore only White Linen. One of my students told me I smelled good! I went back to the office and told everyone what he'd said. They all agreed with him. I learned then like we hear the sound of our voice differently from others, we also smell a.scent on us differently than others do. I thought it was nice, but my one coworker (and close friend) said I should wear it every day. So I did! I don't have any left.

About 5 years ago I worked with someone who is very sensitive to fragrance. She can't have scented candles or soaps, and she can't can't even have flowers in the same room. So I tried body spray from BBW. She was fine with that (I asked her), and I could still wear a fragrance. She has moved, but I still rely on that body spray. I have one I like for each season.

But DH still gives me eau de parfum sprays every Christmas. He alternates between EL and Lancôme. So I wear those too.

I don't wear perfumes & haven't since high school or college. I have a bottle I stupidly got a few years ago, but never used. GREAT tip to use as a deer repellent! Never heard that before. I need to apply monthly or my flowers get chomped unfortunately!!

I did that very thing this January ---had many from the 70-80-90's that I am sure had tURned into shellac----one bottle was White Shoulders-----just dumped them--can't imagine anyone wanting to wear them and the bottles weren't anything great---It was a good sized box too--felt good not to have to drag them to my new home.

Soak a rag and attach to the inside of your trash can. Repels all sorts of critters.

Make sure the old scent is strong and not a good smell.
