Here is my fourth project of the summer.

I started with lamps.

Then I made a custom desk organizer.

The next item was refinishing a brass container.

I went to Marshall's (still have $30 to spend on a gift card) but I didn't see anything that spoke to me. BF and I were out and about in a different city where there is a Homegoods.

Here is what I am working with, in a combination of Goodwill and Homegoods.

What is your vision for these items? What do you think I might do, if you would like to play along?

I am visioning the Moms Kitchen sign removed, the donkeys glued to the protruding ends facing eachother, hung on a wall or sitting on a table or desk...now it's a book rack, cookbook holder, or mail holder.

Shelf with the donkeys on either side and the moms kitchen part down and that's where you would put your items on to store or display. Hard to describe what I'm getting at. Can't wait to see!

The mom's kitchen part is welded to the rack.

Welding/soldering is beyond my DIY scope, LOL.

You'll definitely have to cover the sign somehow.
Paint, fabric, duct tape

Once that's done, and if you actually have a lot of keys, attach small cup holder hooks to the bottom for keys. Or, of course, cups.

If the donkeys are heavy enough, then bookends. They seem to be meant to be used sideways as far as I can tell. I'd just polish, not paint.

I think the shelf is too chintzy to accommodate a lot of weight, like in big/heavy books.

@lolakimono I've done little today but ponder your project. Here's what I'd do.

Turn the shelf upside down. Mount an ass to each end of the wooden shelf which is now above the wire grid. Mount the shelf to your wall. Using "S" hooks, hand your keys, coffee cups, or whatever you like to the grid. Use the shelf for your handbag, books, a plant or whatever. The donkeys on the ends will keep them from falling off.

Here is the reveal, hidden below.

I took the shelf off, as you saw in the previous picture, which allowed me to spray paint the wire part. Like you, I was not going for Mom's Kitchen, but since it is painted on, even spray paint doesn't erase it completely. This is what I have so far. I might add a fabric panel to the pink part and trim it out in ribbon, or paint my name on it, or I could stick on magnets with a few notes.

In the meantime, I found these (cute!) jars at Etsy, and I think they will fit on the shelf. If not, no big deal, I can use them for other items.

If I get a room I will hang it there and probably close to the desk. Because of mice, any food items I always store in glass or plastic. I'm thinking maybe some cough drops, zinc lozenges, chocolates, or mints.

Sadly, I can't bring the cats to work, so yes there is a mice problem at school. I caught 7 in my electronic mousekiller in the two months before we closed.

This is what I made for the small desk supplies, which for now is in the drawer of a cabinet that I've been using as my remote workspace (which I have shared here previously).
