Three Knots, or Not?

I'm always interested in "artwork" that people choose, and if there is a "story" behind what is displayed.

Here they are up close.

And here is the rest of the room.

What do you think is the story behind these?

I don't know what to call them, so I called them three knots. Tassels? An art installation? Textile art?

I think the knots are interesting. This room strikes me as extremely masculine particularly with the brown color palette.

I'd go with Fiber Art and I think it looks wonderful in the room. When I look at it, I think about how liife is not only knotted but smooth. The fun thing about art is that it makes you think.

I think the place belongs to a retired sea captain who is enthralled with the romantic history of sailing ships. But what in the world is that instrument on the tripod? It looks like some sort of hearing (spying?) device.

Definitely a no kids allowed room. Very "cold" the chairs back to back do not create a warm environment.

The knots are simplistic, the room is definitely for a "loner", not inviting or meant for entertaining. The two chairs shown could be for the owner and one guest but more towards "reading" vs talking.

I look at the room and just think what a dust collector. Dust is so visible in a dark room.

A perfect room for a mature introvert.

The room looks like a reception area or a private club reading room...not for inviting conversation but encouraging solitude.

The knots.... The Gordian knot is a sacred symbol to me, but Jungian archetypes are working overtime - all sorts of possibilities.

I don't care for it at all. Ropes are made to tie something down or hang something up. That wall hanging is an industrial leftover made to look like art. Thumbs down.

I don't what you would call them but I pass on the knots and the rest of the room as it is dark and gloomy. Light colored furniture would make a real difference.

I really like this artwork....not for a formal living room but for a Family room/TV Room or Rec room normally found in the basement. I don't know the story behind it but I'm seeing more artwork of this type lately but mostly in the form of macrame. I've mainly seen it in a BoHo or BoHo chic styled room.

@lolakimono IMO it's cold and dark. Don't like dark colors in a room, not inviting at all. I'll pass.

It's sometimes difficult to say why people choose some of the things they do. Similar to why I like vanilla ice cream more than chocolate. I don't know why nor would anyone be able to explain why. Can't blame it on my childhood because everyone in my family likes chocolate. Blame it on my tastebuds.

However, a lot of artwork speaks for character, personalities, and mental health of the owner.

This room is very masculine. I associate knots, with more masculine uses...nautical, farming in early America, the military, logging, and more gruesome uses, to list a few of the many. The rope looks very old, but maybe not. Based on how the rope is knotted and everything else in the room, I don't see anything sinister going on.

The tripod originated in ancient Greece, possibly China, as well, and has seen many uses. In this case, it looks like an older one that's been converted to a lamp.

It appears to me he has an antique bent that's he's blended with modern. The room divider and chairs with wooden arms remind me of the 40's. I can't make out what is below the rope or that small table between the chairs, but both resemble an older style. Shades of brown and leather chair speak for an executive or managerial position.

I don't know whether there is a story other than this is his preferred style. He could be in an arts profession, an interior designer, movie or set design, for example, but whatever his background, his decor is quite creative using all these interesting pieces.

As an aside, I cannot stand the checkerboard flooring, mat, or rug (?), I do not like the color of the drapes, and I do not like any of the chairs in the room, not that you asked about any of those other items in the room. LOL.

This room says ..I am a male designer who lives alone. I don't hate it but it's not for me.
